July 30, 2019
Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:
- 8 male and 61 female cabbage root flies
- 72 bean seed flies
- 29 flea beetles
- 320 pollen beetles
- 29 cabbage stem weevils
- 216 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 0 cabbage seed weevils
There were 413 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
35 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 26 and 30 July (around 15 plants).
No diamond-back moths, 1 turnip moth, 1 silver Y moth and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 3 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

AHDB Aphid News
The latest edition of AHDB Aphid Newshas been released for the week ending 21st July.
- Peach–potato aphid numbers have decreased to half of the previous week. A hotspot at Dundee remains but numbers are declining.
- Potato aphid numbers have decreased to 60% of last week, increasing at only three sites.
- Cabbage aphid numbers also declined to two thirds of last week, with a further decline in the hotspot at Writtle.
- Single currant–lettuce aphids were captured at Writtle and Starcross.
- Willow–carrot aphid numbers decreased to a quarter of last week, increasing at only Silwood Park and Starcross.
- Pea aphid numbers decreased to around 20% of last week, increasing at only Newcastle.
- Total numbers of black bean aphids have decreased to around 40% of last week. There was, however, an increase at York and a hotspot at Starcross.
Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked yesterday there were:
- 10 male and 54 female cabbage root flies
- 61 bean seed flies
- 28 flea beetles
- 453 pollen beetles
- 92 cabbage stem weevils
- 270 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 0 cabbage seed weevils
There were 360 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
122 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 23 and 26 July (around 15 plants).
2 diamond-back moths, no turnip moths, no silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 4 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:
- 58 male and 121 female cabbage root flies
- 83 bean seed flies
- 12 flea beetles
- 444 pollen beetles
- 57 cabbage stem weevils
- 18 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 1 cabbage seed weevil
- 1 small white butterfly
There were 326 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
117 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 16 and 19 July (around 15 plants).
2 diamond-back moths, 1 turnip moth, 1 silver Y motj and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 5 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:
- 70 male and 70 female cabbage root flies
- 34 bean seed flies
- 20 flea beetles
- 293 pollen beetles
- 65 cabbage stem weevils
- 25 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 4 cabbage seed weevils
- 1 small white butterfly
There were 58 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
371 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 16 and 19 July (around 15 plants).
0 diamond-back moths and 0 turnip moths were captured. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth). There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 8 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.
AHDB Aphid News
The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released for the week ending 14th July.
- Numbers of peach–potato aphids captured in the network of suction traps increased in Northern Britain.
- Potato aphid numbers almost halved compared to last week, with increases at only Gogarbank and Preston.
- Cabbage aphid numbers also declined overall.
- Single currant–lettuce aphids were recorded from Scottish sites at Inverness and Ayr.
- Willow–carrot aphid numbers decreased overall.
- Pea aphid numbers increased to 144% of those captured last week, with a continued hotspot at Dundee.
- The total number of black bean aphids captured decreased overall.

Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:
- 124 male and 62 female cabbage root flies
- 75 bean seed flies
- 11 flea beetles
- 618 pollen beetles
- 59 cabbage stem weevils
- 0 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 0 cabbage seed weevils
- 1 small white butterfly
There were 89 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
660 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 12 and 16 July (around 15 plants).
3 diamond-back moths and 1 turnip moth were captured. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth). There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 7 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

AHDB Aphid News
The latest edition of AHDB Aphid Newshas been released for the week ending 7th July.
- Peach–potato aphid numbers have decreased to around 38% of the previous week's.
- Potato aphid numbers have also decreased to a third of previous week's.
- There was a hotspot of cabbage aphids at Writtle.
- Two currant–lettuce aphids were captured at York.
- Willow–carrot aphids decreased to just under half of those in the previous week.
- Pea aphid numbers halved compared with the previous week across much of Britain but rose at Dundee.
- Total numbers of black bean aphid have decreased to 44% of those in the previous week, with a substantial reduction inumbers at Wellesbourne and Starcross.

- 9 flea beetles
- 713 pollen beetles
- 51 cabbage stem weevils
- 2 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 1 cabbage seed weevil
There were 59 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
594 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 9 and 12 July (around 15 plants).
1 diamond-back moth and 1 turnip moth were captured. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth). There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 11 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:
- 81 male and 43 female cabbage root flies
- 29 bean seed flies
- 0 flea beetles
- Approx 3900 pollen beetles
- 26 cabbage stem weevils
- 2 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 1 cabbage seed weevil
There were 63 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
258 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 5 and 9 July (around 15 plants).
1 diamond-back moth and 8 turnip moths were captured. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth). There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 14 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.
