August 30, 2019

Pest update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:

  • 176 male and 33 female cabbage root flies
  • 14 bean seed flies
  • 22 flea beetles
  • 3 pollen beetles
  • 1 cabbage stem weevil
  • 5 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 0 cabbage seed weevils

There were 10 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

38 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 27th and 30th August (around 15 plants).

No diamond-back moths, 2 turnip moths, 0 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.



AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB News has been published.

Low numbers of peach-potato aphid (3), potato aphid (0), willow-carrot aphid (8), cabbage aphid (1), currant-lettuce aphid (0), pea aphid (2) and black bean aphid (5) were captured in suction traps during the week ending 25th August.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:

  • 83 male and 17 female cabbage root flies
  • 15 bean seed flies
  • 50 flea beetles
  • 9 pollen beetles
  • 0 cabbage stem weevils
  • 12 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 0 cabbage seed weevils
  • 2 small white butterflies

There were 8 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

29 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 23rd and 27th August (around 15 plants).

No diamond-back moths, 0 turnip moths, 0 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

There was one diamond-back moth on one of our 5 sticky traps.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB News has been published.

Very low numbers of peach-potato aphid (2), potato aphid (0), willow-carrot aphid (2), cabbage aphid (0), currant-lettuce aphid (1), pea aphid (1) and black bean aphid (1) were captured in suction traps during the week ending 18th August.

  • 26 pollen beetles
  • 0 cabbage stem weevils
  • 8 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 0 cabbage seed weevils
  • 1 small white butterfly

There were 27 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

148 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 20th and 23rd August (around 15 plants).

One diamond-back moth, 0 turnip moths, 0 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:

  • 189 male and 48 female cabbage root flies
  • 63 bean seed flies
  • 27 flea beetles
  • 33 pollen beetles
  • 0 cabbage stem weevils
  • 6 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 0 cabbage seed weevils
  • 1 small white butterfly

There were 46 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

40 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 16th and 20th August (around 15 plants).

Two diamond-back moths, 0 turnip moths, 0 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

There were 2 diamond-back moths on a total of 5 carrot fly traps.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released for the week ending 11th August.

Very low numbers of peach-potato aphid (2), potato aphid (0), willow-carrot aphid (1), cabbage aphid (1), currant-lettuce aphid (0), pea aphid (2) and black bean aphid (1) were captured in suction traps during the week ending 11th August.

  • 115 male and 30 female cabbage root flies
  • 44 bean seed flies
  • 9 flea beetles
  • 59 pollen beetles
  • 5 cabbage stem weevils
  • 17 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 0 cabbage seed weevils

There were 22 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

8 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 13th and 16th August (around 15 plants).

Two diamond-back moths, 0 turnip moths, 1 silver Y moth and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:

  • 44 male and 14 female cabbage root flies
  • 48 bean seed flies
  • 7 flea beetles
  • 84 pollen beetles
  • 0 cabbage stem weevils
  • 39 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 0 cabbage seed weevils

There were 57 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

26 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 9th and 13th August (around 15 plants).

Two diamond-back moths, 2 turnip moths, 7 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

We also caught 3 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.


August 09, 2019

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid Newshas been released for the week ending 4th August.

  • Peach–potato aphid numbers were about the same as the previous week - but all were captured in Scotland.
  • Two potato aphids were captured in Scotland.
  • Cabbage aphid numbers declined to about half of the previous week.
  • Single currant–lettuce aphids were captured at Inverness, Dundee and Starcross.
  • Four willow-carrot aphids were captured; one each from Preston and Wellesbourne, as well as two from Hereford.
  • Pea aphid numbers decreased to around 77% of the previous week.
  • Five black bean aphids were captured.
