AHDB Aphid News
The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released for the week ending 5 May.
- Peach-potato aphid - captured at 10 sites
- Potato aphid - captured at 8 sites
- Cabbage aphid - captured at 3 sites
- Willow-carrot aphid - captured at 10 sites
- Pea aphid - captured at 9 sites
- Black-bean aphid - 5 sites
- Curraant-lettuce aphid - 4 sites
Species recorded in double figures include the peach–potato aphid from Broom’s Barn and Writtle; the willow-carrot aphid from Preston and Silwood Park; and the black bean aphid from Writtle and Silwood Park.
No samples were received from Newcastle this week.
Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps were checked at Wellesbourne today there were:
Traps in last year's swede plot
- 15 male and 9 femaie cabbage root flies
- 38 bean seed flies
- 11 flea beetles
- 133 pollen beetles
- 7 cabbage stem weevils
- 4 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 0 cabbage seed weevils
Traps in the new swede plot
- 18 male and 1 femaie cabbage root flies
- 38 bean seed flies
- 31 flea beetles
- 27 pollen beetles
- 0 cabbage stem weevils
- 9 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 1 cabbage seed weevils
There were 91 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the overwintered carrot plot and 374 flies in a newly-sown plot.
109 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 7 and 10 May (around 15 plants).
No moths were captured in our pheromone traps (diamond-back moth, silver Y moth, turnip moth, cabbage moth).
