Update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps were checked at Wellesbourne today there were:

Traps in last year's swede plot

  • 8 male and 4 femaie cabbage root flies
  • 29 bean seed flies
  • 23 flea beetles
  • 183 pollen beetles
  • 23 cabbage stem weevils
  • 5 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 7 cabbage seed weevils
  • 1 small white butterfly

Traps in the new swede plot

  • 13 male and 1 femaie cabbage root flies
  • 74 bean seed flies
  • 311 flea beetles
  • 348 pollen beetles
  • 59 cabbage stem weevils
  • 15 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 9 cabbage seed weevils

There were 204 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the overwintered carrot plot and 698 flies in a newly-sown plot.

40 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 10 and 14 May (around 15 plants).

We caught 4 turnip moths in 2 pheromone traps. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (diamond-back moth, silver Y moth, cabbage moth).
