Pest update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:

• 24 male and 11 female cabbage root flies
• 23 bean seed flies
• 11 flea beetles
• 99 pollen beetles
• 5 cabbage stem weevils
• 31 cabbage stem flea beetles
• 0 cabbage seed weevils

There were 133 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

54 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 6th and 9th August (around 15 plants).

Two diamond-back moths, 2 turnip moths, 3 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

We also caught 4 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

• 31 male and 16 female cabbage root flies
• 23 bean seed flies
• 20 flea beetles
• 165 pollen beetles
• 6 cabbage stem weevils
• 97 cabbage stem flea beetles
• 0 cabbage seed weevils

There were 254 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

34 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 2nd and 6th August (around 15 plants).

Three diamond-back moths, 2 turnip moths, 2 silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

We also caught 2 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of Aphid News has been released for the week eding 28th July.

• Peach–potato aphid numbers decreased to a third of the previous week, only increasing at Kirton.
• No potato aphids were captured.
• Cabbage aphid numbers also declined to a third of last week, only increasing at Hereford and Silwood Park.
• Two currant–lettuce aphids were captured at Inverness.
• Numbers of willow–carrot aphids decreased to 43% of last week, only increasing at Preston.
• Pea aphid numbers decreased to around 80% of last week, increasing at five sites.
• Overall numbers of black bean aphids decreased to around 40% of last week, only increasing at four
  sites, but including a first arrival at Newcastle.

• 13 male and 29 female cabbage root flies
• 71 bean seed flies
• 25 flea beetles
• 267 pollen beetles
• 10 cabbage stem weevils
• 165 cabbage stem flea beetles
• 0 cabbage seed weevils

There were 232 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.

14 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 30 July and 2nd August (around 15 plants).

Four diamond-back moths, 3 turnip moths, no silver Y moths and no cabbage moths were captured in pheromone traps. There are 2 traps for each species.

We also caught 2 diamond-back moths on 5 carrot fly traps.
