Pest update from Wellsbourne

We are now emptying the traps weekly rather than twice-weekly.

Between 14th and 20th November our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 1 male and 0 female
  • Bean seed flies - 12
  • Pollen beetles - 1
  • Flea beetles - 7
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2

We caught 1 carrot fly on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 2 turnip moths in our pheromone traps (2 traps per pest).

We are no longer taking samples for cabbage root fly eggs.

AHDB Aphid News

AHDB Aphid News for the week ending 11 November has been published.

  • Peach–potato aphids were captured at 11 suction trap sites, increasing at 10.
  • Mealy cabbage aphids were captured at Rothamsted (1) and Wye (30).
  • Willow-carrot aphids were captured at Dundee (99), Gogarbank (1), York (3), Preston (1), Kirton (7), Hereford (1), Rothamsted (1), Wye (2) and Starcross (5). Male individuals were captured at York (3), Preston (1), Kirton (5), Rothamsted (1) and Starcross (3) with a hotspot at Dundee (75). It should be noted that the high numbers of males recorded from Dundee are likely to be moving away from crops to overwintering sites on willow.

  • Bean seed flies - 23
  • Pollen beetles - 0
  • Flea beetles - 8
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 3

We caught 1 carrot fly on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 8 turnip moths in our pheromone traps (2 traps per pest).

We are no longer taking samples for cabbage root fly eggs.

AHDB Aphid News

AHDB Aphid News for the week ending 4 November has been published.

  • Peach–potato aphids were captured at nine suction trap sites but only increasing at York and Preston.
  • A single mealy cabbage aphid was captured at Wye.
  • Willow-carrot aphids (Cavariella aegopodii) were captured at Dundee (32), York (1), Preston (1), Kirton (10), Broom’s Barn (1), Hereford (1) and Starcross (1). Male individuals were captured at Dundee (19), Kirton (4) and Hereford (1).

  • Cabbage root flies - 0 male and 0 female
  • Bean seed flies - 42
  • Pollen beetles - 5
  • Flea beetles - 10
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 1
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 4

We caught 7 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 5 turnip moths in our pheromone traps (2 traps per pest).

We are no longer taking samples for cabbage root fly eggs.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid Newshas been published - for the week ending 28th October.

  • Peach–potato aphids were captured at nine of the suction trap sites this week but only increasing at Writtle.
  • Mealy cabbage aphids were captured at Wellesbourne (5), Rothamsted (1) and Starcross (1).
  • Willow-carrot aphids (Cavariella aegopodii) were captured at Dundee (2), Kirton (31) and Wye (34). Male individuals were captured at Kirton (8) and Wye (4).
