Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps were checked at Wellesbourne today there were:
Traps in the new swede plot (the traps in the old plot have been removed):
- 12 male and 2 femaie cabbage root flies
- 32 bean seed flies
- 258 flea beetles
- 209 pollen beetles
- 23 cabbage stem weevils
- 15 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 7 cabbage seed weevils
There were 19 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the overwintered carrot plot and 380 flies in a newly-sown plot.
26 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 21 and 24 May (around 15 plants).
Two diamond-back moths were captured. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth, turnip moth). There are 2 traps for each species.

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released for the week ending 19 May.
- Peach-potato aphid - captured at 11 sites and numbers have increased across much of England.
- Potato aphid - captured at 14 sites and numbers have increased at 9 sites.
- Cabbage aphid - captured at 4 sites.
- Willow-carrot aphid - captured at 14 sites. Numbers have increased by around 560% across Britain this week, reaching three figures at York and Preston.
- Pea aphid - captured at 7 sites but in single figures.
- Black-bean aphid - 8 sites.
- Currant-lettuce aphid - 2 sites.
