Pest update from Wellesbourne

When the water traps were checked at Wellesbourne today there were:

Traps in last year's swede plot

  • 0 male and 0 femaie cabbage root flies
  • 2 bean seed flies
  • 19 flea beetles
  • 41 pollen beetles
  • 8 cabbage stem weevils
  • 15 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 4 cabbage seed weevils

Traps in the new swede plot

  • 2 male and 0 femaie cabbage root flies
  • 18 bean seed flies
  • 512 flea beetles
  • 101 pollen beetles
  • 34 cabbage stem weevils
  • 17 cabbage stem flea beetles
  • 2 cabbage seed weevils

There were 68 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the overwintered carrot plot and 288 flies in a newly-sown plot.

31 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 17 and 21 May (around 15 plants).

No moths were captured in our pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth, turnip moth and diamond-back moth). There are 2 traps for each species.
