I finally sorted a Joomla website. Now I've to remove almost 70 alias URLs from the index!
Writing about web page http://www.lickworx.tv/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=99&Itemid=124
I have been struggling with two problems using the Joomla ‘content management system’.
- Getting the menu to show in articles.
- Changing to ‘search engine friendly URLs’.
I have given up with the second after making the first step broke all the templates. I spotted have that the menu Itemid numbers had all changed so creating a sitemap based on these fixed the missing menus.
Now I just have a list of almost 70 old, defunct alaises to clear from Google’s index.
The sitemap now has the 17 cannonical addresses and from now on this gets manually updated!
Now I can get on with promoting the growing creative enterprise that is LickWorX, creating new music for sonic branding, radio sweepers, digital media & movie / animi soundtracks, which is more fun!

I will leave this comment with its backlink.
Note that every example demo site that they show exhibits the same Joomla database flaw!
Indeed the only link on the site that has search engine friendly URLs traced back to a similat site in India and did not use Joomla.

Hey Rob – I was trying to get to grips with Joomla a couple of months ago, then someone recommended Wordpress to me – and I haven’t looked back since. I think it has more support than any other CMS – it also works great with Google – you can get a post listed within a day of posting, sometimes hours! I’ve just recently setup mine with Wordpress and I love it – if you need to make any modifications you just search for a plugin – I don’t think I’ve ever had to code things myself.
Alternatively if you really don’t fancy using Wordpress then I can help you get Search Engine friendly URLs in Joomla – djwhitehouse@gmail.com is my email if you need any help :)
