Friday 31st May 2019

Hello,

It’s that time again where the holiday scheme has come to an end. It has been a fantastic week, full of wonderful activities and opportunities. The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves over this last week.

Today, we were lucky enough to take part in an amazing, creative Jurassic themed workshop led by Create Build and Learn. The children really were enthusiastic and loved every second building and creating with the Lego provided. There were many wonderful creations.

Also, we took the children outside; the younger group enjoyed playing Traffic Lights, changing their actions, and movements along to the changing light colours. Whereas, the older children played target shootout – practicing their aiming skills, outdoor snowball wars– with Team One taking the lead keeping the balls off their side, and enjoyed another game of Bulldog.

It has been a wonderful, busy, fun-filled week. We look forward to seeing many of you again for the Summer Holiday Scheme.

Best Wishes, Michaela, Katie, Estie, and the Rest of the Holiday Scheme Team.

Thursday 30th May 2019

Hello,

Today at Holiday Scheme we were lucky enough to take part in forest school (luckily we had the sunshine), both groups got the chance to create some wicked dens and get nice and muddy! They created mud pies and other concoctions in the kitchen, built amazing dens and swings. The Older group also got the chance to work with clay.

This morning the older group took to the lovely weather outside playing Bulldog and Swim-fishy-swim, afterwards working in teams to create the best, successful marble run – many were successful.

This afternoon the younger group, got sticky with slime and creative with making bubble wand apparatuses, seeing who could blow the most and the biggest bubbles.

Best wishes, Michaela, Katie and the rest of The Holiday Scheme Team

Hello.

Another fun-filled day today at the holiday scheme, with this morning’s kite crafting and raft building, with many successful rafts floating.

This afternoon really got the children working on their team work and problem-solving abilities with Caris from Education Group, making shapes, organising words and coloured square tiles to make a cube or different patterns. The children also took their artwork to the floor, creating wonderful chalk pictures, such as robots and scenery.

All together, the children have had a fun-filled day.

Best Wishes, Katie, Michaela, Estie, and the rest of the Holiday Scheme Team

Tuesday 28th May

Welcome back Holiday Scheme.

We have had a great start to the May half-term holiday scheme. In-between the rain showers we have had a fun filled, sporty day with relay races, flag races, and much more.

This was followed by lots of water activities this afternoon; the younger group played catch the water balloon and raced to place the water balloon at the end of the finish line passing it over their heads and under their legs, whereas the older group played badminton and table tennis before heading outside to try their hand at filling a bucket with water only using a small cup with a hole in the bottom. There was lots of team work involved, with the boys winning the deciding challenge.

With Best Wishes, Katie, Michaela, and the rest of the Holiday Scheme Team

Friday 26th April

It’s that time again, Easter Holiday Scheme has come to an end!

While it’s always sad when the end arrives, we still made sure we all had a fantastic last day. Our visitor today was Jim, an artist and puppet maker. He worked with all of the children showing them how to make bird puppets out of paper plates and egg-head puppets out of card. There were some amazing creations as the children let their imaginations run wild.

We also had some outside time today where the children took the jumbo chalks outside to make colourful pictures and messages on the floor. We all managed to finish our pictures before the rain came. The pavement has never looked so colourful!

We managed to get our usual dose of outside games in today as well with some great dodgeball skills and lots of exciting parachute games.

So the fun is over for this Holiday Scheme, but don’t forget that the Holiday Scheme returns in the May half-term and there are still spaces remaining if you would like to book onto it.

Thursday 25th April

Today we had three very special visitors to the Holiday Scheme. Puck, Bottom and Fen (three beautiful owls) came in with Becky to meet the children. Everybody had a turn at holding each owl on a special leather glove on their left hand (we learnt that we use the left hand for holding so that the right hand is free for other tasks). Some children were even brave enough to stroke their faces against the owls' faces, which the owls really enjoy. Everybody learnt lots of interesting owl facts and had a great time.

The other half of the day was a visit to the Forest School near the nursery building. In between the rain storms, we managed to walk over to the Forest School and spend some time making dens for different kinds of animals. We had insect houses with flowers for decorations; mouse houses made from tree bark; and a larger den made from branches and tarpaulin which was big enough for some of the children to climb into.

Another fun-filled day at the Holiday Scheme; we can't believe there's only one day left!

Wednesday 24th April

There was a musical theme to today’s holiday scheme. Our older group were very creative making pan pipes out of straws and lollipop sticks, while our younger children made shakers from cups and a variety of noisy fillings. The children had great fun working out which food made the best noise in their shakers with the winner definitely being cornflakes!

The morning also saw some very enthusiastic game playing outside. Our older group learnt how to play Red Rover and by the end of the session were all experts in tactics, while our younger group had a fantastic time playing ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’

In the afternoon we had a visit from Chris who had the children creating interesting rhymes and making some great clapping rhythms.

We also created some interesting wildlife art outside using natural objects such as leaves and sticks, along with some beautiful metallic paints.

Tuesday 23rd April

Today was a day of Easter-themed fun. We had a find the egg challenge and some great teamwork creating protective covers for our protect the egg challenge. The teams did so well that only one team's egg broke!

We also had a great time making delicious Cookie Monster treats out of cookies, dough, icing and much more, before finishing the day with some outdoor games.

Thursday 18th April

Hello!

What a fantastic day we have had today at the Holiday Scheme! The day started off with some outdoor games of Capture the Flag and Hula Blockers and then we got creative by making our own sports accessories and superhero capes.

After lunch we had more outside fun with themed games and created our own Bow and Arrows.

Well what a great first week back at the Holiday Scheme it has been!

Happy Easter!

With best wishes,

Katy, Maria, Estie and the Holiday Scheme Team

Wednesday 17th April

Hello,

We’ve had a fantastic time at the Holiday Scheme today! Everyone used their Spidey Senses this morning to take part in outdoor blindfolded games, also testing out our other senses with our ‘I’m a celeb’ touch test challenge and had our nose’s working hard in ‘guess the scent’.

We got squishy with it in the squishy workshops using lots of paints and colours and ended the afternoon with lots of outside games whilst enjoying the sun!

A great day 3 at the Holiday Scheme!

With best wishes,

Katy, Maria, Estie and the Holiday Scheme Team

Tuesday 16th April

Hello!

Well what a great Tuesday it was been at the Holiday Scheme, with today being WARRIOR day.

Everyone had great fun with Chief Dan completing the Unlim8 Warrior course, with medals and laughing faces all round.

We also got creative with some Warrior Fancy Dress making as well as making our own catapults and slingshots. We also found time to have a Marble Run race down the corridors, with great teamwork skills being shown!

A great day full of winning Holiday Scheme warriors!

With best wishes

Katy, Maria, Estie and the Holiday Scheme Team

Hello

Welcome back to Easter Camp!

This morning was fidgety and mind blowing with our fab fidget spinning and perception quiz.

Grace’s team took first place in the quiz, not being tricked by any of the illusions.

The illusions continued into the afternoon with some fantastic VR workshops and human ispy.

Followed by some fantastic team work in our orienteering tasks and exceptional parachute skills, enjoyed by all.

A great first day to our Easter Holiday Scheme, much more fun to come!

With best wishes,

Wednesday 31st October 2018

That means a heartfelt goodbye from all staff here at Warwick to all the families who made it a success, including the children, most of whom turned up in Halloween costumes this morning.

The perfectly bright autumnal day was the backdrop for our outdoor games, while inside we had a row of pumpkins lined up and a couple of surprises up our sleeves. There was costume design, glitter tattoo, and last, but most definitely not least, a professional magic show. You wouldn’t guess what the magician pulled out of his hat (hint: it wasn’t a rabbit and didn’t have ears at all)!

Whilst it is sad to say goodbye to you all, we know that February half-term is not too far off and we look forward to welcoming you back before too long.

With very best wishes,

The Holiday Scheme Team

Tuesday 30th October 2018

Hello and welcome back to Week Two of the Half-term.

There is a distinct chill in the air and a definite build-up for something exciting.

We have been busy packing Harvest hampers for Age UK, and the goodwill was sweet to witness. The children had brought jars an tins of food from home - thank you, parents, for sending the goodies - and tried very hard to wrap the hampers filed to the brim and tie pretty ribbons arpund. The final results were excellent - messages to the elderly strangers and treats to make their day.

We had a First Aid course with St. John’s ambulance too, delivered appropriately to our varied age groups, including bandaging practice.

Towards the end of the afternoon, the younger group painted rocks and the older one went on an orienteering walk and a quiz activity. Some were using a compass for the first time and loved it too.

Have a great evening!

With best wishes,

The Holiday Scheme Team

Monday 29th October 2018

It’s getting spookier by the day here, and we haven’t a clue as to why!

Only joking, we’re counting days to our Halloween culmination this Wednesday.

In the meantime, though, we have our hands full with autumnal arts and crafts.

Today we had a long session of puppet-making with the mist incredible materials, such as jiffy bags - who’d have thought?! Jim the workshop facilitator managed to craftily squeeze some sign language in as well, so we had lots of little fingers drawing shapes in the air to show initials and signal completion or call for help. And those agile fingers created some not-so-fragile puppets in pretty oranges, ruby reds and yummy yellows.

The day, of course, was punctuated by outdoor play and meals, as well as sufficient free play for the children to chat and get acquainted - it’s school holidays after all.

Back for some more crazy cool stuff tomorrow.

With best wishes,

The Holiday Scheme Team

Wednesday 25th October 2018

No Windy Wednesday nor Wellie Wednesday - it was sunny and dryagain, and we couldn’t be happier!

We started the day with some stretches and twists: ‘supple joints make sharper minds’, said no one in particular but it seemed the right thing to do.

The morning was made more fun outdoors, where the ball games and hide-and-seek were not the only games in town.

Back in the room, the children decorated their biscuits with spidery-themed designs, which were more sweet than scary in the end. And to continue with the theme, they made Halloween costumes on their own and in groups.

The afternoon’s highlight was Steve the Entertainer with his Magic Show and Glitter Tattoos. Wait till you see the wierd and wonderful tattoos on the wrists of your kids tonight!

Did we mention the pumpkin painting? No? Well, you get the idea.

With all good wishes,

The Holiday Scheme Team

Tuesday 24th October 2018

Day two of the first week of this autumn half-term and it’s still warm and sunny.

This morining was full on with hamper decorating: filled with food, they were a lovely reminder of human kindness and charity. The children also made gratitude and memory jars, including one that, rather suspiciously, had a hedgehog’s appearance.

We had a treasure hunt around Westwood Campus, or we did Geocoaching - look it up! - with a compas and field trip instructions. Happy to report that all the treats were found, untouched, under a bench in the wood. During this activity, metres and metres were walked, which brought us closer to the daily recommended 10,000 steps!

In the afternoon, the children were shown a video where a grandad choked on some food and his granddaughter applied First Aid.

Children practiced on their soft toys. Carol discussed what numbers should be called in case of emergency (999 & 112). The children were asked if they knew their addresses - again, just in case. They were extremely attentive and very engaged.

And the staff? Well, we enjoyed it all and will be here again tomorrow!

With best wishes,

The Holiday Scheme Team

Monday 22nd October 2018

Hello and welcome to this Autumn half-term Holiday Scheme.

>>

>> The weather was glorious and the Indian summer we appear to be enjoying was the perfect backdrop to the autumn-themed activities for the bouncy bunch of children this Monday.

>>

>> We kicked off with a lantern-making workshop delivered by the lovely Creative Station Coventry. Our lanterns may have had a LED glow inside but all around they were covered with all natural decorations - leaves and leaves from the parkland ground.

>>

>> We went on with the plan, filling the day with den building, indoor games, apple bobbing and yet more - but different - lantern-making.

>>

>> All in all, a nice day enhanced with super activities and enriched by a cool crowd.

>> Back for some more fun tomorrow.

>>

>> With all good wishes,

>>
