The part about gates doesn't work now Ballmer's in charge.

For many years the phrase "In a world without walls, who needs Windows?" has been kicked around the Internet by people who prefer a non-Microsoft operating system. There was a Microsoft advert on TV just now and at the end of it up comes the slogan "Windows: life without walls".

I find this amusing.

Anti–favourites 1.4

Follow-up to Anti–favourites from Mike's blag

New version of my Warwick Blogs Anti-favourites Greasemonkey script. Hides entries about operational or human resource management exercises/lessons by default. Click here to install it or read more about it.

I was originally going to make it a separate script but very quickly got bored of trying to work out a satisfactory way to prevent the Anti-favourites script overriding it's actions. (Merely setting the script execution order doesn't work since the Anti-favourites uses an asynchronous XML HTTP Request meaning Greasemonkey carries on to the next script before it's finished.)

An increasing number of people seem to think that you can turn a statement in to a question merely by appending a question mark?

Web portals are so late nineties.

One of the big four mobile phone networks appears to have a very different view on what sort of information people are looking for when visiting their website.

Motor Fuel Ration Book

Writing about web page http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/mikewillis/gallery/motor_fuel_ration_book/

Motor Fuel Ration Book. Unused. There's no dates anywhere in it but I'm guessing circa 1940s. Anyone know? Found whilst going through boxes of papers and photos retrieved from an elderly relative's flat.

Front cover

Oldest dated item found in the boxes thus far is a parish magazine from 1896 that mentions the birth of my great-grandad.

Just… because.

It's not me and hopefully it's not you. But it very well could be and if isn't or hasn't been already, it will be someone you know.

Things about websites that annoy me, x in a series of unknown length

When an image has a button/caption next to it that says 'View larger' or something similar which when clicked opens a new window containing the image displayed at the exact same size.

Penny Arcade comic 9/3/08 http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/3/9/progress/

If you wish to experiment with this exciting new Book platform I recommend content produced by Iain (M) Banks (http://www.iain-banks.net/   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_Banks) who manages to write good stuff in both the fiction and science fiction genres. I can't resist also recommending that you read at least one of Dan Brown's efforts who's writing style and use of language is such a massive contrast to that of Iain Banks. (See also the oratory styles of Barak Obama and George "Dubya" Bush.) The best way to obtain Dan Brown content is via your local Oxfam shop. They're bound to have some and you'll donate what you buy back again. If enough Dan Brown Books from Oxfam are bought from and donated to Oxfam shops them maybe, just maybe, some sort of cosmic balance will be reached.

Spherical biscuits

Spherical biscuits. Like biscuits, but spherical. Like a cricket ball, but made of biscuit. And you wouldn't rub it on your leg.

With chocolate on and/or inside.

Someone should make these. And by someone I mean someone other than whichever company has that stupid advert with the panda that says 'bisqwits' a lot.

Not–so–mellow yellow

Writing about web page http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/

Got some old computing equipment that's gone that nasty yellow colour and wish you could restore it to it's former aesthetic glory? Not afraid to mix various household chemical products together? Then you can create and use RetrOBright.
