August 31, 2018

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released:

  • The peach–potato aphid was captured at Kirton (19) and Hereford (1).
  • Only a single potato aphid was captured - at Dundee.
  • The mealy cabbage aphid was captured at four sites, but increasing at only Preston (8) and Kirton (26).
  • A single currant-lettuce aphid was captured in the Hereford suction trap.
  • Only four willow ̶ carrot aphids were captured - at Dundee.
  • Single pea aphids were captured at Dundee, York and Wye.
  • The black bean aphid was only caught at Dundee (9), Gogarbank (3) and Hereford (1).

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 28th and 31st August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 113 male and 103 female
  • Bean seed flies - 54
  • Pollen beetles - 8
  • Flea beetles - 109
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2
  • Small white butterfly - 1

We caught 16 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 2 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There was 1 cabbage root fly egg around our 15 brassica plants.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 24th and 28th August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 134 male and 31 female
  • Bean seed flies - 70
  • Pollen beetles - 0
  • Flea beetles - 87
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2
  • Small white butterfly - 1

We caught 15 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were 0 diamond-back moths, 1 silver Y moth, no cabbage moths and 19 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 0 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

AHDB Pest Bulletin

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released.

  • The peach–potato aphid was only recorded from Dundee (3), Gogarbank (2) and Kirton (20).
  • Only a single potato aphid was recorded from Dundee (1).
  • The mealy cabbage aphid was recorded from six sites but increasing at only four, mainly in northern Britain.
  • No currant-lettuce aphids were trapped.
  • Only a single willow ̶ carrot aphid was recorded this week from the suction trapat Dundee.
  • The pea aphid was recorded in single figures from seven sites, but increasing at only four.
  • The black bean aphid was only caught at Dundee (4), Gogarbank (1) and Preston (1).

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 21st and 24th August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 16 male and 4 female
  • Bean seed flies - 24
  • Pollen beetles - 6
  • Flea beetles - 192
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 3
  • Small white butterfly - 2

We caught 10 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were 0 diamond-back moths, 0 silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 10 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 5 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 17th and 21st August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 32 male and 13 female
  • Bean seed flies - 13
  • Pollen beetles - 15
  • Flea beetles - 265
  • Cabbage stem weevil -1
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 1
  • Small white butterfly - 1

We caught 17 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were 0 diamond-back moths, 0 silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 4 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 11 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has just been released (for the week ending 12th August).

  • The peach–potato aphid was found in suction traps at York (2) and Kirton (14).
  • The mealy cabbage aphid was found at six sites, increasing at only three.
  • One currant-lettuce aphid was found in the Hereford trap.
  • Only a single willow ̶ carrot aphid was captured - from York.
  • The pea aphid was captured in single figures at six sites, increasing at only Wellesbourne.
  • The black bean aphid was only captured at Dundee (4), Gogarbank (11) and York (1).
  • The potato aphid was only found in traps at Dundee (1) and Gogarbank (3).

Between 14th and 17th August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 32 male and 23 female
  • Bean seed flies - 45
  • Pollen beetles - 7
  • Flea beetles - 202
  • Cabbage stem weevil -1
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 1

We caught 7 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were 1 diamond-back moth, 2 silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 4 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 15 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 10th and 14th August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 12 male and 2 female
  • Bean seed flies - 36
  • Pollen beetles - 5
  • Flea beetles - 248
  • Cabbage stem weevil -2
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 4

We caught 14 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our first sowing of carrots and 27 carrot flies on our traps in the second sowing.

There were 1 diamond-back moth, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 7 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 3 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.


August 10, 2018

Pest update from Wellebourne

Between 7th and 10th August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 2 male and 5 female
  • Bean seed flies - 16
  • Pollen beetles - 24
  • Flea beetles - 438
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 2
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2
  • Small white butterfly - 1

We caught 28 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our first sowing of carrots and 8 carrot flies on our traps in the second sowing.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 10 turnip moth in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 7 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.
