Pest update from Wellesbourne
Between Friday (4th) and Tuesday (8th) we captured:
- 38 carrot flies on traps in this year's crop of carrots (3 traps)
We collected a total of 76 cabbage root fly eggs from around our 15 newly-planted cauliflower plants.
The 3 yellow water traps caught:
21 male and 49 female cabbage root flies
- 15 bean seed flies
- 46 pollen beetles
- 48 flea beetles
- 4 cabbage stem weevils
There was 1 silver Y moth - no diamond-back moths or turnip moths (2 pheromone traps per species).

Pest update from Wellesbourne
Between Tuesday (1st) and Friday (4th) we found:
- 30 carrot flies on traps in this year's carrots (3 traps)
In the 3 water traps in the 'new' cauliflower plot:
- 3 male and 31 female cabbage root flies
- 14 bean seed flies
- 26 pollen beetles
- 54 flea beetles
- 3 cabbage stem weevil
We collected a total of 8 cabbage root fly eggs from around 15 cauliflower plants.
There were no diamond-back moths, 3 silver Y moths and 2 turnip moths (2 traps per species).

Rothamsted suction trap captures – week ending 29 June
The most recent bulletin has just been released 2014webbulletin13.pdfahdb20aphid20news2020140704-2.pdf.
During the week ending 29th June, unsettled weather with thundery showers at the weekend provided few opportunities for any significant increase in aphid flight activity.

Numbers of the peach–potato aphid (Myzus persicae) are starting to fall in central and eastern England. The first individual has been caught in the suction-trap at Elgin.
- The potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae) was caught in low numbers at six sites.
- The pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum) has been caught at nine sites with a hotspot at Writtle. Field reports indicate threshold levels are being reached in some parts of southern England.
- The cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) was caught at seven sites in central and southern England, with a hotspot at Writtle.
- The number of the willow carrot aphid (Cavariella aegopodii) is now very low.
- The black bean aphid (Aphis fabae) was caught in seven suction traps this bulletin week with a hotspot at Writtle (18)
- Single currant-lettuce aphids (Nasonovia ribisnigri) were caught at 5 sites.

Between Friday (27th) and Tuesday (1st) we captured:
- 5 carrot flies on traps in this year's crop of carrots (3 traps)
We collected a total of 46 cabbage root fly eggs from around our 15 newly-planted cauliflower plants.
The 3 yellow water traps caught:
- 11 male and 23 female cabbage root flies
- 38 bean seed flies
- 63 pollen beetles
- 44 flea beetles
- 2 cabbage stem weevils
There were 4 turnip moths (cutworm) and 1 silver Y moth - no diamond-back moths (2 pheromone traps per species).
