Updated day–degree graph
The graph below confirms what we all know - that it continues to be very cold. Spencer Collins (new HDC PhD studentship on cabbage whitefly http://www.hdc.org.uk/project/studentship-biology-cabbage-whitefly-aleyrodes-proletella-0) is following infestations of cabbage whitefly on overwintered brassicas. The overwintering adults he is following laid eggs some time ago and he is now watching them to see whether the eggs will be viable following the prolonged period of cold.

Updated day–degree graph
Still no change in the weather and the updated day-degree graph is deviating even further from the 'norm'. I ran the forecasts for cabbage root fly and carrot fly yesterday with Wellesbourne weather data - activity of both is currently predicted to be 'very late' - but this prediction may change if we get a spell of warm weather.....
