Rothamsted suction trap captures for week ending 8 June

This week's bulletin has just been released.
Despite some windy conditions mid-week, aphid flight activity continued largely unabated this bulletin week. Natural enemy pressure also continues to build, in particular ladybirds, parasitoids and some aphid fungal pathogens.
  • Numbers of peach–potato aphid (Myzus persicae) have increased further in eastern England, but still none in our Scottish suction-traps.
  • The potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae) was caught across the Country in low numbers.
  • Numbers of the pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum) have increased this week, especially in eastern England.
  • The cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) was caught at five sites this week. Field reports have been received of infestations on brassicas already damaged by flea beetles in Kent and S.Essex.
  • The willow carrot aphid (Cavariella aegopodii) migration has started to tail-off in central and southern England.
  • A single currant-lettuce aphid (Nasonovai ribisnigri) was captured at each of Kirton, Rothamsted and Starcross.
  • A single black bean aphid (Aphis fabae) was trapped at each of Dundee, Writtle, Rothamsted and Starcross.
