BlogBuilder update

It's been a little while since our last update, but here is one a few people should appreciate, even if it is a bit late.

There has been a quite long standing bug that meant editing entries that were trackbacks blew up. The code for creating and editing entries was long overdue for an overhaul…and now it's had it.

Another advantage now is that the edit screen is now stateless, meaning that you are less likely to lose your data and should generally be able to recover from (a hopefully rare) an error by pressing the back button.

The preview has now changed too. It will now popup a new window and will show you your entry all styled up in your blog style. This also makes creating/previewing a bit quicker and hopefully more reliable.

We've also done a bit of work to improve the validation of the HTML that we use throughout BlogBuilder. Most people won't notice this, but it's there (although not yet perfect).

As usual, please let us know if you find any problems with these changes by commenting here and we'll do our best to fix any problems as soon as we can.

  1. We'll always allow you guys a little holiday time!

  2. I wouldn't call it a holiday…more like just doing other stuff :)

  3. Here's a rare bug, but a reproducible one which I've bumped into a couple of times:
If I'm logged in, and bring up a comment page, all is good: I have my details at the bottom and I don't get asked for the anti–spam etc. However, if I've had the misfortune to time out on the SSO during the period it takes me to write my comment, blogbuilder crashes out, rather than failing nicely and giving me my comment back to resubmit.

  4. Oddly the WB photos and 'What people are writing about/reviewing' bits have disappeared from the right of the frontpage when you log in but not when you're not logged in. Most strange.

And Max, that's your own fault for thinking about your comments too much and not just writing the first crap which comes into your head like everyone else.

  5. Is there any way of getting rid of the bug in the "My Comments" page which, instead of showing your most recent comment on a particular entry, shows only your first one?

For example, say my comment is number 3 on someone's entry; then about 8 more get posted and then I post another as number 12. Instead of then saying on the "My Comments" page, "yours is the latest comment", it still displays my original one, says there have been 9 further replies and the "latest comment is by Benjamin Keates" as if I'm not logged in.

  6. Is there any way of getting rid of the autofill Url when you add a comment?

  7. there's this little thing. sometimes when you do a students/staff entry it will automatically go into just–me–mode and you'll have to edit it, after that it's fine. has been happening for the last week or so…

  8. Is there any way of getting rid of the autofill Url when you add a comment?

+1. Every time I add a comment I have to manually change the URL. This is boring.

  9. I think you've broken the save for later button, it gives me a preview, and doesn't save a thing.

  10. Or rather, when I then clicked back, and publish, it saved it as a draft. Tres bizarre.
