Bal Dhesi AV workshops

*If any of our advisors wishes to get in touch with Bal Dhesi who is running the AV workshop on a wednesday here is his email address.

B.Dhesi@warwick.ac.uk Jonathon I know you expressed an interest in all the AV issues and I have taken the liberty of forwarding Bal your email address so hopefully you can get to contact each other.*

emails

I'd like to get you all 'proxied' on the The Learning grid groupwise email account. Can the following people give me their groupwise/warwick email account details rather than hotmail etc.

ie. Ant, Gil & Nathan

cheers, dean

Photocopiers

Should any IT or AV guys start huffing and puffing about a 4 way extension lead thats gone missing I have used it to fix the Photocopier on the 1st floor. This machine wasn't plumbed in correctly ( well spotted Chris). Apart from that the copiers have been well used today and all seems well. On the left hand side of the control panel there is a thumb wheel which will alter the contrast of the screen resolution just in case you need to !

Books and stuff

It's quite queit again today… I did my first bit of book shelving :-) Lots of law and art books… heavy!
Had a girl in wanting to know if she could learn Mandarin on her own in the Learning Grid – Dean and I pointed her in the direction of the Language Centre.
Also one guy managed to print off his document to a printer…. but we don't know where that printer is… not very helpful :-s
Was goomg to go off to do a bit of flyering shortly to try and entice people over to the Grid…. but it was rained off.
Gave a quick intro to the plasma screens and clever boards to one chap who came in. He raised the question of headphones and I advised that he didn't have to use headphones but that he could if he wished.
Had problems with one PGCE student's network card – it seemed to make his computer crash when it tried to connect to the warwick hotspot… gave him IT services number so he could see an engineer.

I'm Back

Hi Folks I'm back in today so if any one needs anything please let me know ;-)

Where's the Spoon gone ???? Surely you &*(^%$ students wouldn't pinch my spoon ? Oh and I've put the coat rack on the back of the kitchen door.

Hi Dean

heilo!
read on Rachel's blog that youre not feeling well so saying hi as i'm sure youre at home refreshing the blog homepage every 3 minutes or so :)

anyways.. get better and I'll see you on my next shift I guess

ps- how formal are these blogs meant to be?

what happened to the days when people were clueless bout hi–tech?

Not much excitement today since i got here.. well its definetely more busy than yesterday evening.. but still prety uneventfull..
a little beep once in a while and a computer froze which was the highlight of the shift so far..
waiting for the societies and assigments to kickstart then so should this place.. i can see it.. "so guys.. what today? cooler or.. 'da grid'?".. ok maybe in a months time or so :)

found out we dont have microsoft software access on these computers.. i guess IT figured we shouldnt be doing private work on our working time.. but still.. office can be usefull.. oh well (but they left the games on.. :).. actually the games that come with windows arent realy worth the effort.. so browsing the net and learning bout IT services to make myself more usefull it is :)

Printer credits of DOOM

Writing about an entry you don't have permission to view

Well, that was… uneventful…

Not a huge amount to say, really. We had some Sociology and Law people in fairly early on, who stayed for about an hour or so, a Frehser from westwood who was struggling with printer credits – we managed to sort it out eventually – and wondering about opening hours for the Westwood PC room, and some more Freshers from Arthur Vick who wanted to try out the plasma screens. Apart from the fact that none of the keys wanted to work for one of the conference rooms at one point, all was fine.

Happy Learning, Gridding, and of course Blogging, everyone!

Giles

blog away

OK rachel got this thing working..
something had to be wrong.. i mean i saw chris trackbacked rachel's blog and then i commented on his trackback of rachels blog.. but now (as i actually just saw crhris added- impressed by the way.. blogging from home i see :) ) we can add to the actual group blog

ok its now 6:50 and there are.. lets see.. one user and three members of staff here :).. not too much of a suprize though being first day of term and all plus the network problems which scared away the interested ones for the day

ps- ok i'll capitalise your names from now on :).. i tend not to do that in informal mails/posts/etc
