Follow-up to Eurovision from Dreams of Karl-ifornication

Here are the lyrics to Lordi's Hard Rock Halleujah:

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!

The saints are crippled
On this sinners’ night
Lost are the lambs with no guiding light

The walls come down like thunder
The rocks about to roll
It’s the Arockalypse
Now bare your soul

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
In God’s creation supernatural high

The true believers
Thou shall be saved
Brothers and sisters keep strong in the faith
On the day of Rockoning
It’s who dares, wins
You will see the jokers soon’ll be the new kings

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
In God’s creation supernatural high

Wings on my back
I got horns on my head
My fangs are sharp
And my eyes are red
Not quite an angel
Or the one that fell
Now choose to join us or go straight to Hell

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!

Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock ’n roll angels bring thyn hard rock hallelujah
In God’s creation supernatural high

Hard Rock Hallelujah!

Hope we are all set in tonight to watch the UK make a mockey of themselves again with Daz and rapping schools. Daft chap.

Instead Im making a plea to everyone to vote for Finland's entry, Lordi. The metal band have been accussed by many of inducing and invoking Satanism among their fanbase. And from one look at them you would think so. But the song isnt that bad, and quite frankly one of the best Eurovision entries Ive ever heard. And its so shameless you have to laugh.

So support Finland tonight and make sure we show the pop world that their time is up. Now every throw your horned fingers in the air and scream.

So the RSC finally got back to everyone. And Im in…..

Im playing the part of Roselo's servent and friend Marin. Since the veiled names in the text are quite easy to work out, one can surmise that Roselo is in fact Romeo, and by consequence Marin in Mercutio. Im told the part is not as elaborate as the Shakesperian original but hey Im still doing it goddamnit.

All accomdation and travel is paid for. Wooo. And Ive got my summer planned now.

Stratford, here I come.

Its official. Ross Kemp can act.

Known better to the public for his role as Grant Mitchell in Eastenders, Ross has often been brandished with working the bad boy image in all his programs. From his role in Ultimate Force, to his Mitchell Brother, Ross has shown little actign ability, even to parody himself when taking part in Ricky Gervais' 'Extras'.

But after tonights scene on eastenders, Im now convinced of his acting work. He had a very touching scene with his long lost daughter Courtney, but to top it off Kemp actually brought a tear to his eye. As an actor, I know how dififuclt this is.

So well done to Mr. Kemp. Good work.

Supermassive Black Hole

So the new Muse single is upon us. This has utterly overshadowed my appreciation of Stadium Arcadium.

So heres the breakdown. First listen you wouldnt believe it was Muse. From the overcomplex bass of Hysteria and the orchestra of Butterflies and Hurricanes, the trio have really gone to their utmost basics. The track sounds incredibly dance like at first. But upon other listens we start to hear Bellamy breaking through. Theres an element of Beck about it too.

The theme of the song sounds typically Muse. Epic space stuff. Blackholes may feature heavily on this album. I predict, like a black hole, we may see some of Bellamy’s genius getting lost in the audio-universe. Maybe hes at the end of his musical peak? Of course not.

Once you get used to such a different jump in style, you start to realise its genius. For a song based heavily on drums with effects, it works. The bass is typical Muse, though screams a bit b-side compared to the major epic pieces found on Absolution, and even the driving bass of Origin. The guitar plays little part other than over-laying the bass. No more crazy sounds and picking, no more harmonics and wibbly bits. Just nice simple dark music.

The song grows on you. After a few listens you really get into the simplicity. As a preview for an album, i predict good things. I feel Muse are going in a not wholly different direction. I feel this single doesnt push Matts limits. Lets hope when ‘Black Holes and Revelations’ is released, I am proved very, very wrong.

So Dark The Con Of Man

With the imminent release of The Da Vinci Code upon us, I thought it was time to throw up all the hullaballoo about the book and film.

My own personnal stand point is that this is a piece of fiction. Based upon conspiracy theories and conjecture it is an interesting, yet wholly harmless, book. People however are getting very up tight about it. I was reading Empire and saw how many people have tried to stop this movie being made. The bets one being a nun who protested outside one of the churches where they filmed. The nun protested in silent prayer for around 12 hours.

I think it is important to have beliefs and convictions. And of course one should defend them. But I think people are getting wound up about nothing. I understand however that if those who dont believe could be driven from it and those already believing could lose faith over it.

The importance is the standpoint. The Church are working fromt he point of saying its fiction, but campaigning as if it were fact. As long as we realise that it isnt fact then there is no harm. But I would like to start the discussion about this. What does everyone think about the book, the film, its theories and so forth.

Just let go. And believe.

Million Miles of Water

So as my love for the Red Hot Chili Peppers grows day by day, and my anticipation for Stadium Arcadium also grows, I bought the Dani California singles (yes both of them). This is to obtain all the B–Sides. Make sure you go and buy the one with Million Miles of Water on it. Its so good.

So only two and a half days till Stadium Arcadium. Who else is excited? If you see me at all next week its all I will be listening too. I cant wait. I hope its as good as Im making it out to be.

Lib Dems

Upon watching BBC News this morning, they had a short interview with the new Liberal Democrat Leader. When asked about how important the youth factor of David Cameron's campaign was, we got this startlingly funny reply.

"Youth isnt everything. Just look at that woman recently who had a baby at 62. Of course Im not suggesting I will be emulating this behaviour"

What a star!

BBC News

Just watching the BBC news and they had a short sport section on Ultimate Frisbee. They interviewed the Leeds open team and explained a little bit of the rules. It was really good. Of course they were interviewing with a pinch of salt. I dont think they really wanted to know about some hippy sport. Still theres more of us out there than you think.

Dissertational type problems! EEKkkkk!

Writing about web page http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/filmnetwork/A5925512

Doh! I'm well known for having a penchant for talking too much, but rarely am i able to write SO SO much!

Soon after devising a question 'Does the development of freestanding sculpture from the Archaic to the Hellenistic age reflect the social and political climate of the age?' It dawned on me that i'd have to ostracize the women from this essay (familiar story I know!) and concentrate only on the male figure. The worry that might limit me is now made obselete by the fact that I have managed to write 6,776 words on the Classical era alone, 11,459 in total so far with 103 footnotes among which I have not even added the ones for the figures 9over 50!)!!!!!!

Whats more i still have the largest chapter to write, the dreaded Hellenistic one, and also an intro and conclusion which will be at least 2,000 words!

Whichever way u add this up, whats blatantly obvious to me is that im gonna have to castrate and tear my baby limb from limb at some point – boohoooooooooo!

For now at least I have my beautiful boy as consolation to gaze at and seeing that the poor sod is already missing two arms and half a leg, hopefully I wont have to cut him down to size any more – no wonder he looks so glum!!!

I will determine to be inspired by the vid Eleanor pointed me to, where the guy squishes the 10 yr Odyssey in to 14.8 seconds! We live in hope!

Turkish stalker again….ahahahahahahaha!

God this is turning into a bit of a saga! Again, just when I thought all was clear on the stalker front, i get an e–valentines card!

val card

accompanies by the words: 'I will allways love you. Every year, every month, every week, every day, every hour, every munite, every seconds… '

Today i got not 1 but THREE emails from him; this very colourful and frightfully large rendering of my name spelled wrong:

Apparently a pic of him as a kid in a football team:

…AAAnd a rather incoherent message, although i get the jist!

Eastenders makes me wanna vom at the minute!

Is it just me or does the thought of Pat Butcher in a skipmy lil 'SEX KITTEN' nightie put you off ur dinner?! Did me, they are just two things that dnt go together, nice twist of irony tho! Ha ha! Scenes of Fatty Patty and poor Patrick romping are just not good viewing and the disgust was just topped off last friday with Pat seductively revolving her fat arse round to face him (cowering in her bed), con fag and con scaaaary makeup, and growled 'alright tiger, ready for round two?!'! He should run for his bloody life! Actually have to mute the telly when such scenes are playing! SICKO'S!!!!!!!!

Your views are welcomed!

Turkish stalker thinks i'm a mermaid, how cute???!

I should have said it, really shouldn't have! Last night I mentioned to friends that I havent heard from the stalker for ages, weeks of blissful happiness without him! Then today i got these from him:

The accompanying email did not say much apart from 'THIS, ENVISAGE, OFFICIAL, YOU' and something that I interpreted to be along the lines of 'but i don't know what eye colour you have so I could not draw these'!

Well it's an imporvement on the self harming and quite sweet I guess, and a nice pic to boot, guess he's at least worked out that scaring me is not the way to win my heart! Bless!

Bad week

The week got off to a rather disappointing start. Got 78% in my Greek tragedy essay, Penny said it was "one of the best essays she's ever marked", to be fair, and I said this to her, given the amount of effort I put into this thing a mark of at least 85% was reasonable. She laughed, I didn't.
My seminar in Transformation, Tom might say otherwise but his poor attempts at humour failed to ignite the group, it was left to me to pick up the pieces and I excelled. Penny was a little flushed, and I could tell she was quite taken with the George Elliot reference. Everyone loved it because my humour was, multi layered, nothing vicious.
Mum would be proud.

And just to prove my point…I ATTRACT WIERDO'S!!

Arrrrr… i am a wierdo magnet and there's nowt I can do about it!! For years my mum has always moaned about attracting wierdo's, wierd ppl chat to her about wierd stuff in the pub, wierd ppl stop and yell at her in the street…I just put that down to the wierd pubs she choses to drink at, where the hottest thing to do is the salvation army crossword, and Gosport in general!!

BUT NO, it seems it's genetic, I attract them too… First of all was an old guy from China who asked me out for a dirnk when i was 17 and working in Boots at the weekend, thought I tackled this by saying "NO, for one thing I am not old enough to drink, and two, I have a boyfriend". however this didn't deter him, he came into my new work last year and asked me how univeristy was at Warwick, and was I loving ancient history!! Worrying– as I hadn't even formed these thoughts when I was 17, let alone tell him about them!! He came in every other day last summer which resorted in me adopting a 'run and take cover' policy, running into the warehouse each time he came in till he must have become satified that I no longer worked there any more – HA, fooled him!

Then there was Turkish stalker who you all know about (lets have no more of that) and more recently, not so wierd but equally disturbing text messages from a friend's boyfriend which had to be dealt with!

And then last night, this one turned up as if to prove my point, I shall briefly recount the story…Dancing away in the cooler last night and felt a sharp poke in the side. This guy asked me to take a picture of him, nothing especially wierd about that but then when I waited for him to produce a phone, camera and possibly a friend to be in the picture he came up with none – he wanted me to take one of him, on my camera. Hmmm, so I did, whilst looking around for Eleanor who was seemingly oblivious to this. Then he wanted a pic of me, which was when I grabbed El to accompany me, nice pic as it turned out! Then he wanted one of me and him! I RAN AWAY!! Does anyone know who this man is bacause I certainly don't, maybe he wants this pic of him for some purpose, how would I know!!

Doh, this has got me worried now, I keep thinking why don't I attract nice people, or at the very least, SANE people, and guys, do I look like a wierdo magnet?!! (don't answer that!) One thing's for sure, this being single malarky is sure gonna have a hell of a lot of laughs/cringes along the way!!!!

Anyone have any anti–wierdo/stalker tactics, or nasty repellent of some kind?!

Ace Greek mark and Top B tonight, how could things be better?

Just a general blog today really, feeling a bit more on top of things lately, well this week, have been doing a lot of work, seem to have got that pesky Turk off my back and exercising has made me feel better!!

This term i'm feeling more on top of dissertation, which is a good thing, mainly owing to an excellent book, thank you Dr Hurwit, you are a star among stars and at least made attic art a little more interesting than it actually is, such vision is admired!! Got 87.5 in Grrek exam so feeling rather ace today and going to top b tonight where I hope i will have the pleasure of Bea's company for the first time in ages!! Yey!

On another note, I love my bedroom this yr, its has lots of pink things and pink fairy lights, glitter lamp etc, and a big fire place and candles. Im very proud of my room and its very cosy but i sent a pic of it to a friend yest and he said "Bloody Hell, that would even give a fairy a headache"! How rude, I love my room!!

Sorry to El in her dressing gown, well it's ur fault for not getting up till 7pm yest!!

Iphigenia in Aulis

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had leisurely Christmas holidays and didn't do too much work :) Also, for those of you who had exams today, hope those went well too!

So we have lots of exciting plans for the Classics Society this term, its going to be at least as exciting as last term!

In Week Two, on Friday, we're organising a trip to the Arts Centre to see the WUDS production of Iphigenia in Aulis (which is a Greek Tragedy by Euripides) tickets are £5.50, and it starts promptly at 6pm. If you would like a ticket, then you need to catch an exec member in a lecture you have with them, and give them your name and the money for the ticket. We are paying for the tickets on Tuesday Afternoon, so all monies must be paid before this. If you aren't sure whether there is an exec member in any of your lectures then email us, and we'll either arrange to meet you, or tell you exactly who the right people are!

As a reminder exec-ers are (in no particular order): Eleanor, Lorna, Olly, Rachel(Evans), Eli, Kate(Hunt), Alison, Jess, Catherine(Parry) and Chantal. And we are variously to be found in all modules except Greek/Roman Culture&Society, Intro to Gk&Rmn History, Greek Language and Literature and Latin Literary Texts. Hope that helps.

It should be a great production, and whilst its not on the syllabus for Greek tragedy this year, its still a great opportunity to see a tragedy on stage – whether or not you are taking that module!

As always if you have any queries then email back to this address or my own one ( e.o-donnell@warwick.ac.uk ) and I'll try my best to help you out.
