A solution to parking on campus

Use bicycles.
Parked at the side of a road, each car takes about 4/5 metres of linear space. If the space were used for cycle parking, by providing Sheffield stands, at right angles to the direction of traffic and a metre apart, the space currently used for each car would provide parking for 10 bicycles (two cycles per stand).
Looking at the car parking at Fairfax Street Coventry it seems about 15 square metres are needed per car. If an space of two metres is provided between each double row of bicycles, it appears once again that bicycle parking is ten times more space efficient than car parking.

I think this was the google map’s link you intended to post for Fairfax Street, Coventry
The University has a fantastic opportunity to get people cycling. They already have the cycle to work scheme, and a campus which could be made incredibly cycle friendly. The campus is easy to cycle to from any part of Coventry or Kenilworth, with a bit of encouragement I don’t see why they couldn’t drastically reduce the number of people driving onto and off campus every day.
