Use bicycles.
Parked at the side of a road, each car takes about 4/5 metres of linear space. If the space were used for cycle parking, by providing Sheffield stands, at right angles to the direction of traffic and a metre apart, the space currently used for each car would provide parking for 10 bicycles (two cycles per stand).
Looking at the car parking at Fairfax Street Coventry it seems about 15 square metres are needed per car. If an space of two metres is provided between each double row of bicycles, it appears once again that bicycle parking is ten times more space efficient than car parking.
