Actuarial Year Out Placements for Students
The Candidates

Second-year undergraduates studying a Mathematics or Statistics degree, ideally with some Actuarial Science units, who are interested in taking a year out between their 2nd and 3rd years in order to obtain experience of actuarial work in a general insurance environment.

We are looking for people who can:-

Work to deadlines
Adapt their approach to a task as work progresses and reveals new information
Identify opportunities to apply mathematical and statistical theory in practice
Create and develop mathematical and financial models
Report and communicate findings clearly
Participate in team activities, both at work and socially!

Experience of MS Office applications is vital and especially knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

The Job

The role is based in the reserving department at our offices in the centre of Horsham, West Sussex. The main areas of work include analysis of claims data for reserving purposes, investigating issues highlighted by such analysis and developing the ways in which these issues are presented to other departments and parts of the organisation.

You will be working alongside a variety of staff including qualified actuaries, trainee actuaries, statisticians and business analysts.

Other Details

These positions are for 12 months from summer 2005 at a salary of £13,000 p.a.
Flex-time applies and up to 24 days holiday may be taken in the year, plus 8 bank holidays.
