About decision making

I like RDM module and like system thinking approach.

I was thinking how I can make a decision if I met with some trap problems. In the real world, technological tools perhaps do not help us to make a decision in urgent situations. Because we have no time to find tools in our mind at that limited time. That is a big challenge for ones to make a decision in complex, stressful and urgent business organizations.

I read some blogs just now. I remembered several views about decision making, such as a gain perspective (from journal), an avoiding loss perspective (from journal), a technological view, critical view, personality view, etc. I am not to say these are right or wrong. All of them are right, because it depends on individuals' colorful glasses.

In business organizations, if a decision was based on a gain perspective, the result perhaps let decision makers down; if a decision was built upon avoiding loss, it is hard for decision makers to make a decision. It is because any decision has a risk, it is not necessary for ones to make a decision if without any risks. So what we do is to try to minimize loss and expect a gain result.

A technological view and critical view require a rational thinking process. But after these processes, how about situations are going on? ...Thus, we have to admit that the characteristics and personalities impact on decision making in the real world.

For me, I do not think all biases are bad. The system thinking approach is a holistic and flexible thinking process. It told us how to balance mind-set and heart-set, and then make a value-based decision. Everyone has different mind-set and heuristic method, I am happy to share my view.

RDD_MBE's eyes

RDD _ MBE's eyes

RDD module tought us how to make a decision in our life. It is not doubt that decision making is important for an individual or an organization. In an organization, leadership's decision always affects the direction of organizational development , and even the sucess or failure of this organization. So, the decision maker is just like the eyes of the organization. Similarly, RDD is just like the eyes of MBE.

Personally, in the real life, I like to make a decison depend on intuition. I know it is not good, but before this module, I do not know what method could make a better decision. Luckily, I understood that system thinking is a good way to make a better decision from this module.

But not every decision is made by that way. Thinking about that if we make every decision through system thinking, how tired our brain. So I still would like to make a decision based on intuition in daily life. Perhaps sometimes it will bring with bias. What is bias? One explanation_'a concentration on or interest in one particular area or subject' (Oxford dictionary); Another explantion_'inclination or prejudice for or against one person or group' (Oxford dictionary). If our bias is meaningful and valuable, why should we give up it ? The nature and the world need love bias, the left political monsters need against bias, I never doubt this. Yes, this is my bias! The original nature did not have any bias to human beings, how beautiful it is at ancient time. But when it is surround by lots of bias from morden people, nature will have a stronger and powerful bias. As vagelis's blog mentioned , 'it is a chain of bias'. Here thanks this wisdom. Yes, it is a chain. But nature is nature, no matter what , it will love people finally.

However, I firmly believe that an organization needs system thinking. Just like, MBE needs RDD, RDD needs system thinking to help us make a better decision. So, RDD is just like MBE's eyes.

SSM II

Why do I choose SSM to make a decision? Because in the real world, we are always meet with some difficulties to make a decision. Especially when we are involved in that situation, it is difficult for us to make an effective decision. At that time, we throw out other tools behind us, and we always make a decision depend on our bias. We know that perhaps we make that decision with bias, but it is indeed hard to avoid bias. So we need this SSM to help us make a better rational decision.

Why SSM could make a better rational decision? It is because this technique told us to focus on problem situation, not to focus on problem identification. If we focus on problem identification, we are always easy to be influenced by bias. Thus, it is just necessary to focus on problem situation, and think about that problem is in the front of you, it is a system and sub-system, and you stand outside that system. If we do that, we can make a better decision with less bias.

In addition, why SSM is a continuous process? It is because the process of making decision is a continuous learning and continuous improvement process. We could learn more during the process of making a decision. HAS told us we live in a man-machine system, our duty is to improve people performance and machine performance. And then, we follow 7 stages to make a decision which is contributed to an organization. The purpose of making a decision is to develop this organization to be a never-ending and continuous learning organization. If that was done, this organization was improved. Next, 5E (the definition of SSM)is used to measure whether our decision that we made before is valuable or not. And at this stage, we have an opportunity to adjust decision or modify it to be a better one. Until now, we finished a decision making cycle

Anyway, we always make a decision depend on system 0, system 1 and system 2. System 0 is always make unvaluable decison, so we do not like to use that. System 1 is a intuition system, in the real world, acutally we often make a decision depend on that. System 2 is a process thinking.

We finished the RDD module today. I firmly make sure that it is a free and creativity module. I am pleased to recognize SSM in this module. What is the robust decision? For me, the most robust decision is the root decision. So what is the root tool to make a root decision? For me, the system thinking is the root tool!! At the beginning of the module, I do not call it RDM, because I think that the decision could design rather than make. Oh, Wonderful RDD!!! Free RDD!!!Brillant RDD!!!

Decision Tree

Decision Tree_ Life Tree

The decision tree principle is just like life tree principle. Life tree made up of good news, bad news and no news. Every day we deal with the three kinds of news. How do we deal with them? The process of dealing with them called decision making. In other words, the life journey is a decision making journey.

Think about our life, in the long as well as short journey, what we are doing? What we have done? What we will do? Do we get the answers? Complex? Simple? The whole life is a process of making decisions. But what kinds of decisions are good decisions? What is the standard of measuring good or bad decision? Generally speaking, a good decision can produce a good result.

However, what is a good result? How do we know it is a good result? A good mark is a good result? A higher profit is a good result? May be; maybe not. How do we measure them?

Look at the trees, there are some good leaves, bad leaves and no leaves in some branches. These trees in the front of you looked beautiful, because there are much more good leaves than bad leaves in it. So your intuition told you these are beautiful trees. Is this true??? No, it is just the appearance!!! Why do we ignore the root? If the root is destroyed, how long it can live? How much energy it can contribute to the world? What is the root of the tree?

So we need a root theory, not a surface theory. The world needs root change, not surface change. It needs much more good root trees, not surface trees. I hope the 'decision tree' tool can develop to be the 'root tree' tool. Why not? Why do not wake up all experts? To introduce your root tools not surface tools, if that happened, all of you are the roots of the world. What is the robust decision? The most robust decision is the root decision.

About SSM

About SSM

The SSM is an interesting decision tool or thenique for me. Why I like it ? That is because this tool or thenique can understand human language. SSM advocated structure thinking and creativity thinking. Yes, we need this ways of thinking.

SSM told us input our structure thinking and creativity thinking, and then transfrom it through seven stages and finally to achieve '5E'. The final purpose of SSM is to achieve a never-ending learning cycle through changing management.

SSM's belief is to maintain continuous process of learning and improvement.

SSM's principle is to try to regard everything as a system, sub-system.

SSM's goal is to develop a cross-funtional team

HAS told us we live in a man-machine system

Mataphor told us look at the world in a world-wide view

And eventually, we pursue '5E'.

This is SSM, he/she/it can understand human language.
