When someone says they could die for you, what they really mean is they'd rather die than live and suffer the pain of losing you. All in all, the idea of dying for someone is an utterly selfish plot to save oneself from an ongoing pain. Altruism is fake.

They'd lose you if they died anyway. The point is, they see your life as being worth more than theirs.

I agree more to pig Lu in this case. Love is a rather demanding thing, the deeper you love, the more pressure you give to the beloved ones. When you die for someone, you can't sense the process of losing that person. Instead, it's the one you died for that suffer the most for the rest of her/his life.

I remember this saying once: I wanna be your little pet dog. My life is only one fourth of yours. So that one day when I die you have accompanied me for the whole length of my life, while you'll have to spend the rest of your life missing me.

I am, too, a skepticist of love.

Dying for someone isn't always about pushing them away from the path of a car and taking the hit yourself… maybe if there's something they desperately need you're prepared to put your life on the line for it.

  4. One has to be cynical enough to look for a coffin when they smell flowers. And equally cynical, if not more, when they start liking someone and think of betrayal, lies and pain that are inevitably to follow. Perhaps there is a selfish reason behind every selfless deed. It only depends on how cynical one is.

    Don't confuse cynicism with pessimism…

Yes… but over-doubting the motives of someone you like will end up in you creating a coffin from flowers.
