Lu beats Andy Warhol

Lu beats Andy Warhol

Well, not me so much as the new iMac. I never used to understand people who’d call a certain piece of machinery ‘sexy’, especially in reference to super-thin laptops. But the new black-backed iMacs are just too wonderful. And since I’m a PC user, the only feature I can truly appreciate without in-depth analysis of a Mac is the Photo Booth application. The attached photo is a beautiful illustration of the wonders of the Photo Booth.

A couple of years ago I met someone who’d introduced himself as “John, C of E”. It happened when I first came to the UK, where religion is supposed to be a sensitive subject to touch upon, so I found it very bizarre. Soon after that, my current boyfriend introduced himself as “X, member of Mensa”. Without knowing what Mensa is, it truly makes you feel like you’ve just encountered a proud member of a Satanic sect or a local Masonic branch. After you’ve learnt what Mensa is, it makes you think “what a dork!”. Finally, everyone has inevitably met that special someone who’d say “Hi, I’m Peter, PhD”, which always presents me with a dilemma: do I act surprised or do I act amazed? Do I react at all? Do I discriminate in favour of him because he’s supposedly smarter? And does that make him a better person? Better chances of survival? Kinder heart? Fatter wallet? What does it mean??? He may as well just drop the ‘PhD’ part and it wouldn’t have made a difference. But that’s how people define themselves, so it matters, not so much to the people who are on the receiving end, but to the people who are proudly announcing it to the world.

I’m missing a conclusion…
