WE DONOT NEED OUT OF CRISIS

How useful to design for reliability? How profitable to six sigma projects? if six sigma concerned with quality directly, is six sigma also relates reliability? IS it necessary for us to out of crisis?

From initially developed as an operational strategy to a competitive corporate strategy used extensively throughout the corporate world, Six Sigma is not a statistical oriented project driven approach but process and product quality improvement. It is about reducing defects and improving profitability. Since Projects are the means by which six Sigma converts quality improvements into bottom-line financial benefits, many of the top manufacturing companies implement thousands of Six Sigma projects such as Ford report completing as many as 10,000 projects ( Ford 2006).

However, not all Six Sigma projects produce bottom-line benefits; many produce only local improvements (Pyzdek, 2000) and about 20 per cent of projects are cancelled (Eckes, 2001).

In today??s competitive world, reliability of equipment is extremely important to maintain quality and delivery deadline (Saurabh Kumara, p1 jau.). Quality and reliability often appear together. Reliability is quality overtime. But reliability is an aspect of engineering uncertainty (O?? Connor, 2005, p3)

Design for reliability is deeper reliability area for a product design to meet customer requirement. It is common knowledge in many industries that a lot of problems, which show up in production and the use of products, find their roots in the design stage of these products (Stevens, 1993, p2). Because of the importance of the design, good design reliability during the design process is vital importance. Design evaluations and tests are also an important part of a quality control system.

Therefore, this is no doubt that Six Sigma projects and design for reliability are part of quality. They relate benefits, cost and product life circle. Athough Six Sigma and design for reliability can not guarantee zero failure in a product development process, it benefits to improve quality and reliability that fit of purpose for customer requirements in order to maximize reliability in use and minimize cost in product life cycle ultimately.

There are lots of tools canbe used for Six Sigma projects and design for reliability, but both of them can use Ishikawa (fishbone technique), or cause and effect diagram, which is named after its inventor Kaoru Ishikawa (1979, 1985), and is designed for group work. It is a useful method of identifying causes and provides a good reference point for
brainstorming. whatever Six Sigma projects or design for reliability will be, they need team work and projecrt implementation. However, the most important thing is that the only solution can happen is when the problmes are crrect identified.

To implement these projects , effective management is essential in six sigma and reliability. Without the project and reliability management, a company is not good enough to implement any techniques effectively. A really effective reliability function can exist only in an organization where the achievement of high reliability is recognized as part of the corporate strategy and is given top management attention (O?? Connor, 2005.p351).

From my point of view, it is true that six sigma and reliability can make product improvement. However, the risk environment can NOT be eliminated. Competition is still existing. Risk is everywhere. when someday no competition and risk at all , there will no product quality improvemmet anymore. The drive to push any company in progress is not because they are out of crisis and risk but becuase they are in a risk environment and advanced thinking better than others.

Somehow, the world is still in crisis, that is why human is developing continuously.

ps: I extend my quality thinking after I done the PMA, TRY TO COMBINED WITH THEM IN A WAY, BUT IF THEM ALL ABOUT QUALITY THEN MAKE THEM REACH THE SAME FINAL PURPOSE IS VITAL. AND KEEP appropriate CRISIS GOING IS ALWAYS A WORKING WAY TO IMPEL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT.

TO GAIN MORE knowledge with MORE Pink Fish^^—HUMAN FACTORS IN REAL LIFE

The OPP moudule was done today, But I know it??s not finished yet. Actually, in the real life we face different human factors everyday and need beware to dealing with these issues. Some of these issues could affect our life directly but others could indirectly. Whatever we behaviors are, can demonstrate that kind of psychology and personality sides. Whatever the human group and workplace we are, we need to enhance our communication skills in the whole life. I believe that without proper methods to treat people in various environments we cannot show us in an easy way and gain appreciate from the people who around you.

An interesting case happened around my friend and I in the class??s group of free choice activity. The way we did and the behaviors we had really worth to consider. Why such of this thing could happen and why we dealing with like this way? Most of time maybe we need brain to respond human factors but not with direct reaction.

Although now both of us have hindsight, I also still rethink the way I dealing with people issues, which sometimes I cannot make a right response and right decision in a very short time. Some people who are know you maybe can understand the behavior I have, but others maybe not. Misunderstanding can cause huge mistake and side effect. It did happen many times in my past life. What I want to avoid is that how I can make such of this similar human things never happen again or say reduce the times happens in my resit of life. And don??t let these human things become an obstacle in my life, especially in my career and family. Therefore, I do appreciate that both of us (lucky it??s us not any others) had a live lesson in a real life during the OPP module.

I just tell myself that recognizing no more treat self like a little child but to be a person who grown-up, it??s a way I really need to face and challenge.

Every person has different background, culture and personality, which make some people could not easy to get close each other. To dealing with this kind of people who have strong personality need patience and more respect to them. An interesting case now in my real life is that such a person who is my classmate most people don??t like her and said it??s very difficult to mix in with her. But from my point of view, we don??t need to change and face her just appreciate the things what she did right and ignore the things she did wrong. To give her more respect, to influence her in a smart way. Then, she will give you what you want.

Be your self is being your self, the conditions are to beware the biggest enemy is yourself and be your self in a happy and mature way. To well respect and trust people who worth to treat, people will pay back for you more^

According to a Chinese famous philosophy, to be a person with good behaviors firstly then do a thing later. Well said, short words but I do believe that we need a whole life to understand and perform properly. Because no one knows what will happen and Plus we are learning everyday!

Ps: Based on the week’s personal and groups performance, my final personal result is not bad^ lots of rethink from the week??s 5 different group work. Why some group works were good why others not?

The happiest thing is that I have gain a pink fish as a personal reward from Tony, which means he appreciate that my contributions in the module??s class.

But I do know that the purpose is not to gain a pink fish but for more about what ’s the level of the knowledge i have learned form the module. the pink fish is ONLY a symbol as a good result^ there is a long long long way I need to do better, better and better.

No best but ony better.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IF TOYOTA LACK OF EFFECTIVELY PERFORMANCE SYSTEM AND HRM

Organizations, people and performance finally was start running today. Actually, the module called human resource industry before but now the title has changed. I think that it??s not only for better understanding but also for more key elements have involved in the module in recent year -- the human recourse area.

I am quite interested in the module, which is related to all human factors professionally. The issue is huge and developing in the world. It includes environment, employment relationship, individual and organization performance, measurement, reward system, human recourse strategy and culture diversity. I think that even leadership can be as a part of factors in the area. Those kinds of aspects demonstrate that how to make employment??s change effectively and use people properly are a big issue for any organization to face and achieve.

The strategic framework can be a good tool to analyze industry??s HRM factors. In this afternoon, we team 3 was allocated an industry area—-automotive manufacture operator to do a 5mins presentation as utilize the framework. The analysis is not hard to do and there are lots of cases and examples can be found in the industry. But the point is that we think about that why there is only one company TOYOTA can profitable in the whole world??s industry even many another large companies still exist such as FORD and GE. Is that just because TOYOTA has a unique production system? Or has any else?

From my point of view, I believe that TOYOTA do has an excellence production system, but what if Toyota has not an excellence or say at least a good performance system and good HR to deploy it?—-People ¡§CToyota has excellence people and most vital thing is that Toyota knows how to use these talent people to make its system??s necessary change. Whatever it??s in source or outsource. Toyota knows that its people to control and produce machines but not any others.

It not means like Ford, BA these companies are all failed by poor HRM but at least they have huge the area problems to affect their performance system. How about if they can early around find these problems and solve them?

The better thing is that more and more company recognizes that People are key element in their organization. Leaders and human recourse managers of an organization must envisage these HM challenges all the time.

Ps: The first surprised thing was that Andreja is in the class as well. We know each other in EEE??s leadership module. We were in the same table but not in a same team. The second surprised was that today my random team was team3. I am the only girl in the team^ I represented our team??s presentation. I thought that it can not for me to do it so just feel free and not prepared it .but when our team??s turn, I had been called to do it by team members^ what a shock! Luckily, I fully understand what the key points are. Then I tried to calm down and I did in a thinking way^ not so fluent but as Andreja said at least all points spoken out and others said it??s a good reflection.^ I made it ! DARE TO FACE CHALLENGE ^

The morale of the staff —PEOPLE IS ONE OF THE FIRST IMPORTANT THINGS IN A ORGANZATION

The quality, reliability and maintenance’s seminar was start running today. In the morning, SPC exercise more about statistics and six sigma that was not exciting but useful. It tells us that in the real world how to use statistics to measure a process under control and reasonable. The more practical exercise was running in the afternoon, which was related to the quality management.

A case study was provided in the class. Based on the case study, each of group as a consultant of Triangle need to identify the company called GREENWAYS problems firstly and then to make a recommendation that could turn the garage into a quality unit. To give a chance show that Triangle is probable to buy it. The basic situation of the company is that it lacks of organized and leadership resulting in most human factors and quality problems. Follow the file to visit the company; it is really a mass environment for the staffs and customers. Three main problems: system, people and physical environment are not difficult to find but it is complex to identify.

In the reading process, most of our group members can not believe that in the real world the kind of mass business can exist. To identify each problem, we divided three small groups to identify different three problems then put it together.

For people problem, I think that the company lack of vision and leadership excellence influence in order to so many human recourse and factors problems appeared such as the service manager does not do the things right such as he also do mechanical jobs and he do not know what are the exactly responsibilities for the department and the company. Also most staffs are only work to satisfy the boss but not care customer service. The morale of the staff is the clearest and biggest problem for the company.

Physical environment and system issue also are vital for the company. But most of them are caused by the people problems, which are been identified below. If the company has a good management and leadership excellence, their managers will do the things right and staffs will happy to do a job appropriately. For example, staffs will not allow smoke in the workplace and ignorer customers and take a long talking. The whole atmosphere of the company will be a huge change in a not far future. All of those system, people and physical environment problems will be solved soon and completely.

Therefore, in the solution steps, we recommend that in the first weeks the company need dealing with the most of the problems of the company such as to training manager, create a clear vision and tidy up the shop. Training people in the first stage is extremely significant because it would build a new skilled management team for the company. On the other hand, the institute leadership also is important so that the owner Alan could lead people to influence them excellence. Our team firstly made the point in the first few weeks but after considered that we have moved it into the second step. The time is not a limit but we do need rethink when is the best time for the things to make happen and to make sure not miss the best chance. Thus, maybe in the first few weeks we have enough time to make the things happen and it will be sure early better than late. The organization??s structure need to rebuild.

Another point like policy deployment was mentioned in the solution in the after two months, which is also match the right answer. But how to deploy is a big issue for the company. What ever the company will do if cannot carry out these policies to make management team and staffs do understand company??s performance and changes. It cannot make any quality effort in the future.

The missed point is that our team did not mention the phone ring within 4 times. It is related to the management and customer service issue.

After six months, it needs to focus on customer’s satisfaction, marketing and sales performance. Our teams more focused on layout, changes, marketing and appraisal performance. If the company has an improvement in the six months, it could continually improve by following the right and better methods in a long term plan. If not, we could make things change and rethinking. Staffs?? performances this kind of information need to collect after appraised so that it could aid management team to make a decision.

Whatever the recommendations are, all of the thinking and activities only can be exist in a profound and long term quality planning based on the company??s situation and conditions. I do believe that people always is one of the first important things in a organization and excellence people with excellence leadership can lead a quality organization in any aspects, which not only for people and system but also for products and service.

ps: I do Appreciate that i have chose the leadrship excellence module as my optional module in last year and those two weeks in EEE really made myself exceed the level I had before. the most important thing now is that with the developing, i do find i can better understand leadership and quality this kind of theories in EBM COURSE and both of them also are vital in a real lworld and it makes my life easy. ^

in the afternoon after less than 2hours preparetion, i did the part of the presentation , compared with another some presetations in EEE, I am confidence to do and not nervous in the speech. not brilliant but fluent and without any reading things in more than 3 mins^ most of the thinking and ideas were spoken out. ^ but need beware the speak speed this kind of things^

I do enjoy the whole LEARNING process.

leadership coach& leader

The leadership pma is finally done, what i learned from the essay is that Leadership Coach it self likes a leader is to demonstrate that how good a leadership could be and how influence a good leader would be. The coaching it self can be a well example to influence people in a leadership way.

It is possible to display that the application of leadership theories in a practical coaching situation to help senior managers creating and finding a vision. Based on the coaching for the CEO John and the marketing director Alan, many profound leadership knowledge and human factors can match the required quality of leadership.

--Leadership can exist in everywhere and every minute in our life^^

leadership with quality^^

During this week, I am running an EBM key module—-quality, reliability and maintenance. This module includes Demi theory, policy deployment, EFQM, TQM and six sigma those important quality factors. I am so exciting with this learning cause even those already concerned in leadership module but not been taught by this way. Therefore, I can learn more detail and could use that knowledge to think deeper leadership coach question.

It is related to the leadership one but it is also tricky to think it suitably. Quality is one of the key aspects in an organization. Good leader and leadership mean quality. With excellence coaching, quality leadership would exist and enhance in the future. How to use it? We need lots of solutions to suit different leadership situation.

Paul said in the quality class: a company not only need to tell buyers how to use the product but also need to give warning to tell them what things they can not do with the product. It means quality. He said the engineers need think about all the stupid things that customers could do^ think whole to avoid damage. The case Paul gave in the class shocked me and it let me will never ever forget it. When a product can show these features—-if it is not call quality then what it should call? From my point of view, good leader with good leadership also could have the same thought to avoid possible problems in an organization. Leadership psychology theory could show more detail with the point.

Based on the new product development, Paul told us that Change comparison demonstrates that best practice company is always better than common practice company. Any common practice company will cost more and more money and resources after start stage but best practice company will cost nothing step by step. The long term view can be achieved by best practice company. The quality of change need test in a suitable time. To think about Transformation of Leadership, it is also need quality and good time with right person to do the right thing.^

New Product need design, capability, quality, reliability and maintenance, which mean that it is a process of tolerance. Same like leadership and leadership coaching; it need well understand the organization, plan, quality, reliability and maintenance with long insight view. When it makes sense, leadership excellence will be achieved.

To Coach___ identify problems firstly

To coach a waver company successful again, it need identify its problems firstly- not only from the mic evironment of the comany but also from the mac evironment of the company. And must to be the right main problems after analyized. ---—-from my point of view.

Otherwise, if not quite understand the comany’s current situation and problems should be a very dangerous thing as a consultant to coach the company whatever you will do. And it will be sure that you can not could be a appropriate and brillant leadership coach for the company and any other company you service.

To know what you will do based on the comapny’s special situation and problems is the right first step as a leadership coach to think in a real world.

TO BE A LEADER? GOOD LEADER?^in 2007 and the future^

2007——A new year coming, followed by new thinking, new study and new life^ as I said to Dr Er in the transfer request e-mail: The most important thing is that EEE do changes my thinking and methods to study and live. It let me deeper think about my future and life. I believe that EEE could push me to achieve more knowledge and better improvement not only in my master period but also in my future study and life. The study environment is innovate and motivational. I enjoyed the Leadership excellence learning process. Thus, even i can not transfer it because of some modules crash but thinking to be a leader still could be a positive way as a direction for my life. ^

However, all I want is not only to be a leader and good leader in a organization in the future, but also the meaningful of the thinking is that the influence of leadership could around by my whole life-- to lead myself first and to lead other people.

What is the golden rule to be a leader? According to the theory of leadership, there are three ways to become leader.

1. Some personality traits may lead people naturally into leadership roles
-——Train theory.

2. A crisis or important event may cause a person to rise to the occasion, which brings out extraordinary leadership qualities in an ordinary person.
-——Great events theory

3. People can choose to become leaders: people can learn leadership skills.

----Witty cucepted theory

From my point of view, I think that most leaders are not to be a leader simplifies, which means it could mix 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 ways in some complex cases. For a single case, I do believe that more and more people are learning skills to be a leader.

Furthermore, leadership attributes includes lots of elements such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge and skills. Position and power does not make person a leader, it only simply makes person the boss.

Therefore, the basis of good leadership is honorable character and selfless service to your organization. I do believe that leadership is the art of science.^

To be a leader, especially a good leader is not a whimsicality. It is not about some ideas in a person’s mind, but is a way to live and a direction to lead your future^ for create better study, life and society.

The winner laugh at the last^^

CLASS:

We have three presentations in this week. today ’s afternoon we had the fist presentation,whcih is the performance appraisal system. we need use the PA sysytem to assess the postitive and negative aspects of PA in terms of their effect on behaviours, motivcation and teamwork.Based on our anaysis, we need make some suggestions to improve PA so that better align performance management approaches with leadership theory.

Compared with the first presentation i did in the first module week, I felt more comfortable, more easier and more confident to do the second presentation. Less worried and nervous. Maybe it was a second one and i know i learnd lots of things from the first bad presentation such as plan, writing and speaking^ and the most important thing is that i can better control my self to take easy style to show whtat i got from the learning process. psychology saying

I took the introduction part in the presentation and prepared it in understanding side. The better presentation today shows that the method is useful and let me more clearer to know what the main point i need to say. I flet better and this is no doubt that i learnd the process.

Today’s senminar had two questions been involved:

1.What is the difference between management and leadership?

2.What are the practical issues a leader must consider before using Hoshin Kanri?

I thought that the difference between management and leadership is they are in the different lever to performance such as top or opreational. but Pual that he really challenged my answer cause he think that both them could be in a same level exist. lots of debates since that^ finally, i think i made a misunderstanding. they are interactional but difference. COMPLEX!

All the students in the class had their excellence oppions. It indicates that we all think about the question deeper.

the second question also had many different answesr from the dicuss. some basic practical issue like understand Hoshin Kanri was been mentioned firstly.

From 5:30- 8:00, we prepared the third presentation and discussed more details about Hoshin Kanri and deployment

Teamwork:

A fancy day for the learning process, morning , we met in learing grid at 10:am. we talked about the last presentation and also modified the third presentation slides what we prepared for today’s afternnoon’s one. One of the goals we sent in the plan is reduce the cost,we had debead that what ;s the aspects involved in the goals. Li think that the goal could achieve most from reduce top manager’s wage. but rest of us think that if a comany do that could have a human resourse problems following. Finally, we all agreed that the same goal we need to achieve.

After the presentation, we went to learning grid again for the final presention and report’s meeting. we checked all the slide we done and go through the words. we allocated the report part to five question and seperateed to 4 part s to finsih.

THE THIRD PRESENTATION:

afternoon, A really improvement presentation i had today. better than any others that before i did in the module. I flet more confident again and better know what i need to say and know what the tutor want to listen. I am sure that i can control some important aspects in the presentation to make the process well.

Paul seems like our team presentation but still some problems we need to solve after the class.

Some my classmates told us we problely is the best one in today’s presentation. i really appreciate it and i think that all of our members will do our best in the rest of the study and the group work.

anyway, i think that its a good presentation as well ^

I am not afraid the challenge—Hoshin Kanri__A wonderful day^^

A day for thinking and discussing. The seminar let us really talked about the topic for next week’s schedule. Most of students in the class have said their own questions. Actually, I have arleady thought about some aspects: psycholgy, stiategic,planning^ I had the question to show my view: WHAT KIND OF PLAN WE NEED TO HAVE BEFORE WE LEAD? But maybe I had not make it sence to Paul and everyone so that there were 6 people aganist the topic for next week’s seminar in the later confirming time. Total number of students are 13.^ Paul said that Emily there were 6 people do not want to do the topic. The answer is yes, cause we need think about how can we make it useful and meaningful leadership. That is a process of plan.

I known the answer must is yes. and I am sure different leaders or say people will have different plans to carry out leadership. but what I really need to know is that what is the standard and main points the plan need to involve? I need some examples from any practice or theroy to show that how it works in positive way or negetive way. It is complex but could have some good solutions.

Paul think that The question links Hoshin Karin. According to the theroy, Hoshin Kanri is a systems approach to the management of change in critical business processes using a step-by-step planning, implementation, and review process. Hoshin Kanri improves the performance of business systems. He made up the question to “WHAT ARE THE PRACTICAL ISSUES A LEADER MUST CONSIDER BEFORE UNING HOSHIN KARIN?” Good translation from my point of view^ Explain everything I try to say^ brilliant question ^Paul said that it links emily’s question fantastic^ happy and Thank you paul for help.^

Anyway, I could get a chance to gain the answernext week, exciting

This afternoon, learing grid. our team done most works about winning strategy 1^ from 11;20am to 5:00pm not sure , no time saying^ we need another meeting for winning strategy 2 on sunday afternoon^ god help me to finish my PMA as soon as possible^ not enough time??

After dinner , I was really happy that had a talking with li and henlen in my room. Both them have excellence points about the study and the future career. I know there is a tough process to study LE MODULE but I am not afraid the challenge.It is a process that tough but happinessThank god let me meet you. Thank god let me choose the module
