The Work Experience Bursary Fund

So, you recognise the importance of work experience and understand that it can enhance your employability in your chosen field when you graduate. However, the area in which you want to work is traditionally one which only offers unpaid work experience placements – and you really can't afford to work for nothing however beneficial it may be to your future. Sound familiar?

Now there is an opportunity for you to take up that placement – you just need to make your case!

The Careers Service is launching a new Work Experience Bursary fund to help support students who wish to take advantage of unpaid work experience opportunities. You can apply for money to help with expenses and other costs – but you have to persuade us to part with it first!

Following your successful application for an unpaid placement, you will need to complete and submit an application form which is available from the Work Experience Team at the Careers Service. The completed form will be assessed by the Work Experience Team and if successful the money will be made available to support your unpaid work experience placement.

If you need any more information or an application form please let me know.

Vacation time. To work or not to work…..

So, it's vacation time again. Are you working or are you studying? Do you wish you were earning money and adding to your CV or are you working and wishing that you were at home studying for the exams coming up?

If I think back a few years when I was studying I can remember everybody giving me contrasting advice…..you need to study during uni vacations to get a good degree but on the other hand it can be so competitive when you graduate that surely you need to develop your transferable skills and get some more work experience…plus you can do with increasing your bank balance…

It's not straight forward to get the balance right and it's not always easy to find vacation work which is one of the reasons why Warwick now has a Work Experience Project Team which is dedicated to securing additional Work Experience and Internship opportunities for undergraduates.

These opportunities may be paid or voluntary; part-time or full-time; local, national or international. Another plus point is that you may be entitled to financial support if you get offered an unpaid placement that will benefit your future career.

So, where do you find these opportunities? All you need to do is do a search through the Work Experience/Internship and Voluntary opportunities when you click here and apply to the placements that are of interest to you.

If you find that your summer vacation work/internship requirements don't seem to be catered for, please let me know the type and location of work you are looking for and we will see what we can find for you.
