Right, so the months of preparation have finally come to an end, and last week the end of term party went ahead. With it looking like it could never happen and would have to be cancelled as late as Thursday afternoon, we gambled our reputation, chancing it all on the night...
It was a success, and if you went last night please leave a comment on here with any feedback, whether it be positive or negative, that you may have. With your input, we can try to improve our events, tailoring them to what you want to see!
The support, James Conlon, was a bit of an unknown for us all. I had listened to his stuff on myspace, but to be honest (and I think he'll agree), I it doens't do him any favours. Last night though he pulled out a pleasantly surprising set, with a stage presence which one wouldn't normally expect from an amateur musician at Uni. It was obvious that he got into it, though I sympathise with both performers, as it was difficult - they couldn't hear themselves as we had no stage monitors. Playing an acoustic set just trusting the sound engineer (who just happened to be me) is a hard thing to do in itself. I know I wasn't the only one impressed with him last night.
Our headliner, Jamie Lawson, was every bit as fantastic as I knew he was going to be. I knew from the moment I found him (actually Sheri should take the credit for the find - Ed)
that I wanted him to headline it, but I never expected him to agree to such a risky gig. Imagine my surprise when he eagerly agreed, and came up from London for the occasion. His guitar prowess was matched only by his commanding yet dynamic vocals. There was not one down moment in his whole 50-minute set, the end of which was greeted by huge applause. I saw nothing but respect for him in that room, and in my wanderings around the room everyone I spoke to said they were very impressed. I have posted one song, his cover of Razorlight's Golden Touch, on youtube. You can find it here:
I'd also like to say a huge thank you to the Ents Committee, you did a great job! Couldn't have done it without you!
