editing…

The whole editing issue continues to bubble up… There is a hard core of potential teams that really wants to break out of the editing constraints. They point out that access to straightforward digital video editing is available as part of Microsoft XP as well as other sofware packages.
This has triggered quite a bit of brain working in techie and non-techie parts of the Shootout team.
This is our curent thinking:
Within quite strict time constraints we will permit the use of simple home editing software (available in Learning Grid) to produce more fine-tuned results within the 'linear – editing' rule.
Is this a helpful concession??

  1. Hi. Isn't the whole point of the shootout to show how creative you can be within a very tight set of restrictions? It's not about having access to decent gear, it's about thinking through problems. The city shootout competitions get loads of entries, and they have the in-camera editing only restriction.

  2. Hi, My instant reaction is to echo that of Martin. Where does 'simple home editing software' stop and semi pro begin? It's a prime area for techno-creep to set in. Things could escalate so rapidly we'll all be hustling for a full Avid setup by the end of Saturday. I say don't dilute the essence of the original concept, keep it in the camera.

I'd vote for in camera only too. The difficulties this presents seem to be the main point to me. And behind a lot of the fun of it.
