URSS Action Plan
Summary
My research project is undertaking an 8 week laboratory based project investigating growth of membranes as a function of polymer length using linear dicrhoism as a means to measure this.
Actions
Researcher Development Goal 1
What is the challenge or skill that I would like to develop?
I will like to develop my experimental skills in particular the laboratory based ones.
What am I going to do to achieve this?
I will work in the lab, possibly with previously un-seen equipment which I will have to learn how to use. I will be able to develop and/or change my experiment in accordance with how the experiment proceeds
Why have I chosen this particular objective?
To develop scientific research skills to see if I am suited for a masters degree in this area
Is this achievable within the timeframe and resources available?
The lab is always available with plenty of reseources, equipment and more experienced students for me to learn from
When will I achieve this by?
By the end of the time I spend in the lab i.e. when I begin to put my results together
How am I going to know that I have been successful?
I will have more confidence in my 3rd year labs
Researcher Development Goal 2
What is the challenge or skill that I would like to develop?
Improve lateral thinking
What am I going to do to achieve this?
I will learn techniques and try and be more creative in the lab with my experiment
Why have I chosen this particular objective?
It allows a better scientific approach and will help if I can think up better ideas and be more creative
Is this achievable within the timeframe and resources available?
I will develop this as far as I can within the time frame
When will I achieve this by?
It will be an ongoing process
How am I going to know that I have been successful?
I will learn a few techniques to improve my lateral thinking and try and apply them in the lab and this will determine the success
