Thing 7 – eportfolio
My eportfolio can be found at:
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/wie/courses/degrees/docs/who/students/edraay
it needs work on the literature - I'd like to add in the resources I've used so far and update the professional development.
Thing 6 – Academia. edu
I aready have a profile: http://warwick.academia.edu/VictoriaFolgate
and a linkedin one: http://www.linkedin.com/profile/edit?trk=tab_pro
Note~: look into these:
- Thomson Reuters' ResearcherID(Recommended if you have published journal articles in Web of Science indexed journals.)
- IAMScientist
- ResearchGate
- Community of Science (CoS)
- Mendeley(Primarily a reference management tool, so one you could explore later in this course!)
Thing 5 – podcasts and videocasts
I've been subscribing to music podcasts for years, but now I have started to look for academic podcasts on itunes.
As far as I can find so far, most podcasts on education in itunes are to do with learning languages. There seems to be lots of podcasts aimed at school age pupils, and some lectures from different universities, but none related to science education so far.
The search continues....
Thing 4 – journal alerts
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)1098-2736?globalMessage=0
I'm awaiting confirmation of my wiley account then I will subscribe to
Journal of Research in Science Teaching
Thing 3 – RSS
I have an igoogle which I have been using for quite some time. It sits well with my google domain. I have it linked to all RSS feeds of university departments and with my google reader, to keep it well organised. I find igoogle extremely useful and think google is an excellent company in terms of all the open-source work they do.
Thing 2 – slideshare
Slideshare is a very easy program to use to upload powerpoints. I shall use this in future instead of uploading solely to academia.edu. It allows me to share the powerpoint with people on facebook, twitter, via email and embed into websites (perhaps my website).
I'm not sure facebook is a beneficial idea as most people I am connected with are personal and not professional contacts. I will have to look into twitter. The email and embed functions are good though.
Thing 1
It was easy to set up this blog, I like the University format and the benefit of having the warwick domain boost the ratings in the search engines.
I'd like to learn how to use blogs to collaborate and publish my research, and am interested in the multi-user blogs as written about on the 23 things website.
