Interested in designing games?

Are you interested in designing video games? Whether it be for a living, or just for a laugh, or even if you're just interested in playing games, then we might just have something to brighten up your Monday evening.

As a society, we design (and play…) video games from the ground up, including the concepts, programming, artwork, sound effects, music and scripts – and you don't necessarily need to be able to do any of these to be able to learn, of course. We also provide a lot of resources for members, access to local game companies for tours, talks and whole days where you can come in and spend a day inside a games company and work alongside professionals to improve your skills.

If you're interested, then come along to Meeting Room 2 (in Union North, through the doors to the right of Costcutter, up both flights of stairs then along the corridor on the right) at 7pm tonight (or any Monday) and you can find out more information.

I'm not interested in desing games myself, but we are curious as to the best way to hook up with a gaming design company. My husband has experience in I.T., but we have some specific ideas for games and gaming systems that we need help expanding. Where do we go?

  2. It will be quite difficult for you to make productive contact with games companies, they very rarely take external ideas for games seriously. Most games companies dont have the time to make all the games they want to make let alone those that others have come up with. If you are serious about this however, you should start by gauging interest across all sections of the industry, from developers to publishers. I basically dont think there is a good alternative to just trying to make contact with as many companies as possible. From experience, e–mails are roundly ignored by most games companies, so ring them or try and met up in person.

Hello video game design Society. I have recently graduated high school an am currently exploring several long term career oppourtunitys. My dream job would be a video game concept designer. not necessarily the programmer (although i wouldnt mind exploring that facet of VG design), but the person, or one of the persons that hammers out the basic idea/concept, gameplay and fundementals of a game. As a long time player and self critique of all kinds of games, i would have to say that mmorpg’s and even mmo games are the largest market for games and currently, in my opinion, the most uderrated. I have a few games compiled in prose, but i am not sure how i could go about showing my ideas to companies for developpement.
-i would appreciate any info that could help me get my work read by the right people, or possibly information on how to properly compile a VG concept. thank you for any help you can give .

Hi, i am only 12 yet i have some quite good game ideas me, my best friend and my child minders nephew(30) all came up with them and i know it will be hard to get people to listen but the 3 of us are really serious about it so i would appreciate some advice etc. I already know a little bit of how to do code etc. I have been playing since i was about 6 or 7 and have a kind of adapt mind when it comes to things like this and just really want these ideas to reach the right people because even in school i get a extra ICT class because my teacher is helping understand and learn coding.
