Final entry : Academic Writing Workshop
Follow-up to Assessed essay – Ways in which the workshop helped regarding the essay. from Vasiliki's blog
The academic writing workshop has met its aims!
Once I have applied the tips I have learnt during this workshop in one of my essays, I was rewarded by the mark my essay got! Therefore, since I now have two essays to hand in in a month’s time, I should work in the same way as I did with my last essay.
Firstly, do an adequate research so that I can approach the topic easily. Then, get all the information together in order to separate the useful materials and the unnecessary information. Consequently, plan your essays in a clear way so that the reader can see that you have fully understood the question.
Having in mind the above basic steps, I will do my best to write a “good” academic essay. In my opinion, if I had not attended this workshop in the first term then I would not be able to put things in order and get the desired marks. During the workshop I have learnt various methods which were new to me( such as quoting a quote, or breaking down the title to single words which helps in providing a better understanding of the topic) and this helped me in understanding how I could improve previous essays or homework in general. I would therefore, strongly recommend this workshop to other students who are aiming for a better result or who are willing to learn something more in order to improve their writing skills.
Hi Vasiliki,
Thanks for this final blog entry. I think the reason that you’ve not been getting responses is your tagging. I have forwarded your email to someone in Careers and Skills who can advise on this.
With this blog though you have fulfilled the criteria for this workshop for the WSPA. Congratulations.
As you’ll see from my other comments, my main suggestion for you is to think about formulating some slightly more specific action points, or goals, or things to try out, in order that you can maintain your focus and engagement and improve your chances of making further improvements. Academic writing is definitely one of those skills that needs to be continually worked upon. It may be too that you need to adjust your writing as the year proceeds, for different situations.
All best
