Workshop results.

Follow-up to Workshop from Vasiliki's blog

Two weeks ago I handed in an essay of 2500 words and I would like to comment on the way the workshop helped me with it.

Once I got the essay title I was really worried because I did not understand what I was supposed to write about. However, I have followed the instructions given during the workshop, for instance to break down the question into single words and look "behind" each word. I had then thought of what the lecturer wanted me to write about and finally I came up with a quite clear plan.

While planning the essay I was really organised. I firstly got out most of the books which were outlined on the website for the certain module and then I started reading the parts I thought were important and made notes.

I had my points all written down (specifying any quotations and the book by which I got the information from) and I had printed all the information I got from the Internet, which made it easier for me when I started writing the essay. I had all the research I did on the table and I just had to choose the parts which were relevant to my essay.

The bibliography and referencing was much more easier for me to do this time, although it took me a while to put everything down! However, I thought that the workshop did really good job according to this aspect since I felt more confident while doing it.

In addition, when I finished my essay, I was over the word limit so I had to cut pieces down. At first, I found it really difficult because I thought that if certain sentences were taking out of my essay then it wouldn't make sense. But, in the end I managed to paraphrase lots of sentences so that I had less words and pieces which I thought weren't as relevant as they should regarding my essay title, were put as footnotes. This helped me in reducing the words and presenting a more organised essay.

Once my essay was done, I felt more confident and sure about my work. I think my writing has been improved.

Therefore, in my opinion this workshop is really useful and worth it. I gained a lot from it!
