It begins

Paul's first blog. I can see this becoming addicitive and me wasting many a happy hour satisfying my inner critic, slowly working through my entire CD collection (yes I really am that dull). Hopefully by tomorrow I might have something slightly more pressing to write about as I'm about to start my research!!! So this is me for the next 10 weeks; that's a lorra, lorra blogging. In which case it was nice to start off on a non-academic note. Good luck to everyone with their research!

Beneath the layers of cheese are deep running political roots

3 out of 5 stars
Yes believe it or not, there was a time when The Offspring considered themselves a serious punk band with serious songs; not the cheese smothered drivel that has come out of their singles box the last few years a.k.a Why Don't You Get a Job, Original Prankster etc. Unfortunately you have to backtrack a bit to get to these little gems and on the middle of their first ever album is a real corker with relevance even today. The song Tehran is about American policy in the middle east, or more specifically against Islam. A very catchy arabesque hook coupled with ironic power lyrics make this song a keeper. After finally wareing out a mates tape which I've had for 8 years I went and bought my own CD copy of this, and I don't have one regret.
