Didier and Wayne

Writing about web page http://www.transparentsport.com/cfcuk/story.php?id=101291

I am thinking about Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney. I would love to be in a room for a chat with these two iconic players from today’s Premiership. I am struggling to think of two footballers that have dominated the headlines and forums over the last five years. These players divide opinion amongst the great footballing public.

  1. ‘There is no media circus following Rooney and his temper, and the FA seems to be not going to punish him for his actions. What happens if another player does the same? I am also thinking of those many impressionable children sporting their replica kits. Will they think nothing about hurling the ball, bawling at the referee, and punching the corner flag during their Saturday morning games?’

Is that bit actually a joke? He gets punished all the time. Like for instance, when he was sent off in a pre season tournament in another country and the ban was upheld in the league, even though the same thing happened the season before with Gerrard and there was no ban in England.

Punching a corner flag? Oh what a terrible crime. Maybe these kids should look to their own fathers instead of to footballers as role models. Its the standard rubbish argument used by the media all the time, and the clichéd ‘will someone please think of the children!’

Lets overlook the fact that before that Wayne hadn’t been sent off in any game since August 2006, and that was the pre season tournament. That’s 2 and a half years. Pretty good record for someone with so many ‘angry moments’. And the media circus was in full flow after the Fulham game, spouting absolute rubbish about his ‘disciplinary record’.

And its also quite funny what happened with Drogba v Barcelona only shortly after you wrote this article.

As for Steven Gerrard, he is the biggest cheat in the Premier League. Just search ‘Gerrard dives’ on youtube.
