Outcomes from the Podcasting Workshop
I’ve been meaning to write this for a week now, but a London visit got in the way.
Firstly, can I just say what a fantastic morning it was – really insightful and interesting. I’d not seen Rob O’Tooles summary of podcast projects before and found it really amazing – there are some fantastic ideas out there.
Below are the notes we made on the discussion group we managed:
What support are people looking for?
- Editing – the technology and the principles
- Studio space
- Time to produce podcasts
- Help to get started
- ‘How to…’ guides
- Advice on whether podcasting is appropriate
- Case studies and best practice examples
- A community forum
- 1-2-1 services
- Help with communication skills
The major issues and blockers were:
- Time!
- Cash
- Editing skills
- Quality – technical, style and content
- Search and browse
The kinds of projects people were interested in:
- Service programmes (e.g. sports)
- Improving business processes (e.g. purchasing)
- Customer service – human voices
- Newsletters and project updates
- Engaging HE and Business
- ‘An Audience with…’
And the advantages to be gained were:
- Revisting previous materials – esp. where English is a problem
- Distance learning
- Catching up on missed lectures
- Content in advance
- Accessibility
- Shyness – easier to ask questions after a podcast than in a lecture
I want to make sure we don’t lose the creatvitiy and excitement from this session, so will endevour to put in place a numer of elements, in conjunction with the eLearning team:
- A podcaster forum
- Best practice guides and Case Studies – style, technology and comms
- Start to look at a collective strategy for podcasting/online video in terms of key intitatives to support and develop – more of which another time perhaps…
More iPod hilarity
Ha Ha! My iPod just played:
Should I stay or Should I Go – The Clash
followed by
Just Go Away – Blondie
Nice to see Ms Harry giving Mr Strummer a clear idea.
