Learning experience of Six Sigma

Having spent two weeks immersed into the teachings of Six Sigma there has been a significant learning experience with many factors driving this. Having external speakers offered an industrial insight into the effective deployment of Six Sigma whereby I began to understand the true difference between theory and reality. The learning was also interactive and so I felt much more engaged with the topic rather than having a lecture based approach. The way in which information was portrayed through activities such as with the planes or helicopters offered a fun learning experience where it enhanced collaboration amongst peers so I feel that learning was more effective.

The team presentations went well, at times our group were confused and I took it upon myself to go the extra mile, this motivation to succeed for my team resulted in extra learning out of the classroom which I feel added enormous value to the end learning which should help with the post module assignment.

Evidence of my learning can be depicted from the difference between the two presentations where in the first one, there was no indication of negative aspects of Six Sigma whereas the second presentation showed a critical understanding.

One issue I had this week was the mathematical side to Six Sigma, given the exceptional power of the process, I do feel that moving forward, I will need to spend extra time understanding this.

All in all, it has been a very fun, engaging two weeks and I look forward to researching the chosen topic area for the PMA.
