May 20th 2014, 10am-1pm
This event will celebrate the power of the interdisciplinary through the work of four National Teaching Fellows who will contribute, between them, three discrete 40-minute sessions.
- Dr Laura Ritchie, Teaching Fellow in music at The University of Chichester will invite colleague to learn the cello.
- Professors Carol Rutter and Paul Raffield will demonstrate their teaching methods in their shared Warwick module 'Shakespeare and the Law'.
- Dr Nicholas Monk, Deputy Director of IATL, will offer a series of 'take-away' exercises designed to appear to students across faculties and disciplines.
No preparation is required, other than a willingness to participate and collaborate.
The event is designed to demonstrate some of the ways in which teaching and learning styles and activities can function across disciplines and faculties. It is also intended to provoke questions, and will require that participants imagine their disciplines in slightly different ways from those to which they may have been accustomed. Perhaps your discipline and the way you teach is more 'interdisciplinary' than you think.
The three hours will conclude with a plenary and some definitions of what we might mean in our teaching and learning experiences when we talk of 'interdisciplinary', 'multidisciplinary' and 'transdisciplinary'.
