Issue of loud announcements in the library lifts
Regarding the Library and the numerous complaints received by the Education Officer about loud announcements in the library lifts...
Dear Brian
Further to our recent meeting, the lift engineers have already turned down announcements for each floor to the minimium setting. The engineers did what we asked for the two student lifts, but there is an outstanding request for the staff lift sounders to be turned down further to match the other two.
Apparently the sound has to be at a reasonably high level to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations.
Did it comply with the Regulations before the sounds were introduced? Or is that why they were in the first place? They are extremely annoying, the other day I was in the lift, and it went off THRICE before we had even got moving!!

The DDA was ammended and the lift announcements were introduced to comply with the new regulations…

I swear they are getting progressively more annoying! Maybe they should fix them so they go off only once each floor or something! Sometimes, it will keep saying "this lift is going up", but it still just stays there!!

I thought the lift announcements were really funny, aside from the obvious silliness of the idea I found the thought of some bureaucrat sat at a desk being asked to approve funding so that the lifts can talk to be pretty hilarious. I also have a friend who, upon stepping into an already crowded lift was told "the lift is now overweight", everyone just turned and looked, talk about brilliant, what could be better than a chatty lift with an attitude problem.
