Thought for the day.

Have you ever heard the phrase "its always in the last place you look" ?

Well I'd just like to publicly announce that its a completely STUPID phrase. Why on earth would you continue to look for something when you've already found it? That's the only way it wouldn't be in the last place you look, and that’s just silly. Arghh.

Unlessssss, of course, the person who invented the phrase was trying to be ironic, but I don't that is the case because nobody uses the phrase in that way. So my stance still holds, the phrase is stupid stupid stupid and I will boycott it for the rest of my days.

  1. Unless you had made a psychological shortlist of possible places to look, and happened to have searched all of the others before getting to the correct one…

Interesting. Although your argument only holds if you assume 'places that you look' are equivalent to 'places you think to look'. The phrase only talks about places you "look", so even if the place you found it was in fact the place you thought to look for it first of all (but for some reason didn't) you still have to look in the last place in order to find it. Phrase still stupid!

If you recall A – Level physics you know that for every possible event, there are an infinite number of outcomes, each one played out to completion on a different plane of existance. When you loose someting, then on each plane the last place you look will be different. Therefore, on one of the planes, the lost item will be in the last place you could possibly look and this will always be the case.
This proves that the statement is accurate, you just have to have knowledge of theoretical physics in order to make sense of its true meaning

  4. Lol hello pete, I forgot all about our little physics discussions and theories, it all suddenly came rushing back to me! Hope ur exams are goin ok n' stuff? Just for the record – I do agree that the statement is accurate, im not disputing that, im just saying its a stupid thing to say! People seem to use the phrase suggesting that its to do with bad luck that the thing ur looking for is in the last place you look, which is completely stupid cus' its nothing to do with luck – its fact! Dont worry though, I have a few more stupid thoughts of the day for you to rip to shreds, if only I could get these exams out the way… argh!

Exams are just about to start and revision has been a nightmare. I think this problem may have been over–analysed somewhat and i think that it was a poor attempt at wit by the person that first coined the expression, maybe they were bored, maybe they were simply low on IQ.
Will wait for some more thoughts with eager anticipation. In the mean time, good luck with your exams for the rest of the year.

“its always in the last place you look” is the most appropriate phrase to use for someone who has lost their way in life and is on a quest to find their “self” ... here there is an irony that is most compassionately intended … the meaning of the phrase doubles back on itself – to see that the looking IS the finding … you know, the old “its the journey, not the destination” thing … give the phrase some more latitute, and look at it again, if ever you loose your way ….
