Why is envy a deadly sin?

My best friend is travelling this Grenoble this weekend coming, for an Oasis gig on Monday… supported by the stereophonics. I was okay about it at first, wanted him to enjoy himself but now I have this overwhelming feeling of envy that I'm not going with him.
At first I though I was wrong for feeling it but then I realised how natural envy is.
I envy Freddie Flintoff's wife,
I envy peoples skill on a guitar when I can only just grasp basic chords. I envy the clever people in my seminars who seem to know all the answers and seem to have read every book in the world ever!
I envy the freedom my younger brother had(only 13)- no worries about money or relationships.

I even envy my dog who seems to lay down in a corner asleep nice and warm whem I have to brave torrential rain to make it from my home in Coventry for the sake of one lecture somedays. In fact the more I think about it the more natural it seems. This makes me want to ask how something so natural can be seen as so wrong?

I know, what a rant about an oasis gig but I feel like I need to ask myself these things, if only in the hope of convincing myself that I am normal! I'm sure he will have a great time at this gig and I will be subjected to hearing about it for the next decade. And although I will always be enviable at least I have the comfort of knowing that I go to see Feeder 25th March so revenge is sweet!

A good week for music

Having already been blessed with the Strokes new album, I didn't think that my January could get any better for music and then what do they do? Bring out two totally different but stunning albums on the same day.
Arctic Monkeys-whatever people say I am thats what I'm not
and
Richard Ashcroft-Keys to the world.

I can proudly say that I neglected a essay in order to spend monday night listening to both albums and they are just wow!I had high expectations of the Arctic Monkeys and they didnt disappoint, perfect to annoy old ladies on the bus. As for Richard Ashcroft, that was the biggest surprise. I'm not usually a fan of his solo stuff but I was so impressed.

Buy both of them now!!!! Your life may even be better for it.
All I can say is that if this is January than the rest of the year looks very promising.
