Christina's Message
A short message from Professor Christina Hughes, Chair (Head of Department, Sociology):
Many thanks to everyone who participated in the Festival and who contributed to its success. This includes my colleagues on the Festival Organising Committee, and especially our two Secretaries Hazel Rice and Helen Wollerton who have undertaken a phenomenal amount of, inevitably invisible, ‘backstage’ work.
A special thanks should also go to the PhD students who have organised events – Dilip Mutum (WBS) who has kept everyone abreast of all developments through blogs and twitter; Doug Bamford (PAIS) and Tom Thurnell-Read (Sociology) for organising the PhD poster competition; Sam Lyle (Sociology) and her team of helpers who put up posters and balloons and distributed postcards, book marks, and maps.
Thanks also to Nigel Thrift and Tony Giddens for their illuminating keynote addresses and for prompting wider debate about contemporary issues. Finally, the event would not have happened without the foresight of Robert Lindley, Chair of the Faculty, who originally promoted the idea of a Festival.
I’m looking forward to the next Faculty of Social Sciences Festival, through which we can celebrate the innovative teaching and learning and cutting-edge research here at Warwick and continued dialogue about our work. Hope you are too but meanwhile do keep posting your blogs.
Best wishes, Christina
