Windows Defender
Writing about web page http://www.microsoft.com
Hi all,
Just to point out that Windows Antispyware is now Windows Defender, and the 2nd Beta version is available to download from Microsoft now.
I wouldn't be surprised if future versions turn out to be effective anti-virus tools, too.
Yeah seems to work well enough (running it for a week or so now) though they seem to have taken out a lot of the notifications etc from the old one (unless its just me), it also prompts to you to scan everyday (well the icon shows up) and I think thats a bit excessive to be honest

I think you'll find that MS are bringing out their own anti-virus separealy called Windows One Care if i recall correctly. You can beta it as well i think from link

I bet it reports back to MS about which websites you look at, and whether your copy of Windows is dodgy.

(Obligatory anti-MS comment.)

Yes I've heard about One Care too. But I think people are concerned about the effect this will have on the anti-virus market and there has been pressure on Microsoft to charge for the One Care service. It just seems to me that these "anti-spyware" programs also happen to be very effective at finding other "unwanted software" – eg viruses? (They monitor the Windows startup registry location). Just a co-incidence, of course…
