Three new modules available on the Warwick Skills Certificate for this term – registration is now open!

CM5c - Understanding Your Personality Type with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The Myers–Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) offers insights into your personality and preferences. Based on Jungian theory of personality type, it helps individuals explore how they prefer to interact with the world, take in information and make decisions. The workshop is offered by careers advisers who are also trained MBTI practitioners. Knowledge of MBTI can help you with decision making, project work, team work and much more.

The module is open to all students and will be useful for anyone who is looking for an insight into their own personality and that of others.

CM5d - Managing the Transition into Employment

This module aims to advise and guide students through the transition from academic life to graduate employment. It will help you identify the skills you have to offer and to develop further the skills that employers seek. You will also gain essential information from the employers’ point of view – including how they select the top gradates.

Although aimed at finalists, this module would also be useful for students seeking to benefit from their summer work experience.

FC2d - Work Experience module

Now you can gain accreditation for your summer vacation work experience!

Discover how to find a suitable placement, and how to set objectives to gain the most from it. Carry out your placement – and the discover how to evaluate the skills you have developed and how to articulate these skills to future employers.

If you would like to take part in this course, please sign up online as soon as possible

This 10-hour course has been designed for the following target audience:

• Learners for whom English is a Second or Foreign Language and who want to learn or develop short story writing skills
• Teachers of English as a Second or Foreign Language who teach or wish to teach short story writing to ESL students in their respective environments

The most significant value of creative writing is the exploration into self which it provides. When we articulate our feelings or ideas about a certain matter on paper, we tend to discipline our minds into orderly thinking about that subject. That is why college and university teachers so frequently assign term papers and other writing projects which call for the discipline of organized thought process. This course, therefore, is intended to help participants approach their written work creatively, methodically and confidently. It is also meant for those who just wish to attend to their long-ignored short story writing itches.

The purpose of this course is NOT to help learners develop grammatical excellence, but content.

All course participants will be expected to participate actively!

Guardian: Employers predict more graduate vacancies

A report in the Guardian yesterday stated:

Graduate employment vacancies are expected to rise for the third consecutive year, but recruiters fear applicants will not have the right social skills to do the job, according to research published today.

and:

More than half of the 222 companies who took part in the biannual AGR graduate recruitment survey, said they were not confident they would be able to fill all their vacancies because university leavers lacked the necessary teamwork, leadership and communication skills.

• Sp6a – Communication Skills

Essential skills! This session will include an introduction to oral communication skills, including making presentations. This is for you if you lack experience in expressing your ideas in an academic setting, or if you feel shy or nervous when asked to do so. This session will be practical, friendly and confidence building.

• Sp6b – Communication Skills 2

This is a lively and very useful day for anybody wanting to improve and develop their communication skills.

Conferences, presentations, working in groups, chairing sessions, rappoteur role etc. This session is to examine and practice the professional skills of oral communication in the public domain; and to help you shine at conferences!
