Top Ten Video Games

Following hot on the heels of the Top Ten Simpsons Songs comes the Top Ten Video Games. I've probably forgotten some excellent ones, but here y'are

  1. The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past
  2. Super Mario 3
  3. Grim Fandango
  4. The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time
  5. F-Zero
  6. The Curse of Monkey Island
  7. The Sims
  8. Theme Hospital
  9. Dungeon Keeper
  10. Chrono Trigger

Edit: Okay, so maybe I should have put a little more thought into this. I had forgotten about Driver, the Grand Theft Auto series, those cool arcade shooty games (Yes Duck Hunt, and I quite liked Virtua Cop when that was out), Tetris, Harvest Moon, one of the Sonics (I forget which), Lylat Wars and probably lots more.
No first person shooters would get in my top ten, I don't like them because it's like wearing blinkers and the movement is weird, and no fighting games (remember when they were calledd beat-em-ups?) either, cos they're all the same button-mashing tedium. At least when I'm playing anyway

  1. how about nooo i won't even say but what abotu things like half life, and theme park, and duck hunt, lemmings dance mat party edition, oh the pain u have so unwittingly caused me with your poor choices, i mean zelda twice! I pity u poor sir

  2. Half Life is exactly the same as a million other games, none of which are much good if you ask me, so it ain't in there. And Zelda is marvellous, so it gets in there twice.
I bet you rushed out and got Doom 3, didn't you?

  3. Mind you, you do have a point with Duck Hunt. The old double cartridge with that and Mario Bros. Fantastic.
I never really played Theme Park, although Theme Park World was inferior to Rollercoaster Tycoon. I don't dare ask about Lemmings Dance Mat Part Edition

  4. ZOO TYCOON! I said goodbye to my social life the day that delivery arrived from Amazon …

dude, theme hospital is the gayest game ive played in my life aside from the barbies. seriously. but i have to agree with you on the first person sgooter games. i hate using the analog for like seven different things! i just really pisses me off.

  6. Doubts about the sexuality of Theme Hospital aside, it does suck a little bit. It was fun for a while, but the novelty wore off pretty fast and then it was just boring.

Clearly the best game ever is Final Fantasy VII. I've never engaged a game on an emotional level as much as this one.

    Also reccomended:

Planescape Torment – wonderful writing and a plot that keeps you playing hour after hour.

Doom II - Atmospheric, repetetive, shooty genius.

Worms Armageddon – The best replay value of any game ever. And the only game I've ever actually been good at.

Resident Evil – Hilarious voice acting, wonderful, clichéd story line, and Zombie blasting fun. What more could you ask for?

Anachronox – The funniest game ever made. Don't let anyone tell you it's Sam and Max or Monkey island. All the laughs are here. And with a universe that you just want to live in to boot…

  7. Most of those I've never played, but if I ever get the chance I certainly will. I've got Resident Evil but can't do it. The stupid dogs at the very start kill me every time. I'd forgotten all about the Worms games though. The most recent one I've played was Worms 2 and that's marvellous.

  8. omg – somebody with a great taste in video games

Zelda a link to the past on the SNES was awesome
The Curse of Monkey island was the most appeasable and likeable game I have ever played.
The cartoony graphics and laxadaysical sense of humour are awesome.
Rocket Knight Adventures for the MegaDrive, similarly to the two previously mentioned games has an awesome characterisation and was great fun to play too.

But in the genre of first person shoot em up Doom3 is like nothing else – its like Resident evil and Quake all rolled up in one. The best first person shooter ever and truly very very scary.
Goldeneye for the N64 was a classic and aside from that and made by the same people timesplitters2 on the PS2

Oh yes and Worms2 – this is as good as worms ever got – multiplayer is so addictive.

    – gawd I hope I don't sound too geeky :S
