Remember a while ago I prepared a very detail progress report. My tutor might need me to summarise it for the review panels. Noooooo all that effort!!! I think I might just submit the complete report that tells the whole story about my research and my achievements to date. But shall see later. Maybe IF I need to (with arms twisted), I might summarise it to maybe half the volume. :) Shall see…
Feeling a bit sad that the long weeked is over. Now back at uni with piles of work to attend to. One more dissertation resubmission to mark and more literatures to review for the next stage of my research. I pray for wisdom, strength, peace and joy in Jesus’ name!!!! Amen. I’ll get through the next few months with productive end to each day.
Looking forward to my cousin coming over to Cov the weekend after. Hope the weather will be lovely. We are planning to take a steam train trip (choo choo train haha) from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth. Did that in 2005. Looking forward to visit the lovely village town again!! Am sure my cousin will enjoy it as well. Bridgnorth is quite medieval with lots of charm.
But before that, I would need to complete a substantial amount of work. I pray that I would complete my planned experiment next week. Oh and I need to start on my poster for the uni poster competition. I have not started yet!!!

I’ve just submitted an extended abstract to the Intuition conference. I commit all 3 papers to God and I hope that all of them will be accepted. The 3 conferences are:
i) IPT – EGVE 2007 (IEEE)
13th Eurographics Symposium on Virtual Environments
10th Immersive Projection Technology Workshop
July 15-18 2007, Weimar, Germany
ii) Symposium on Applied Perception in Graphics and Visualization
Sponsored by ACM Siggraph (ACM)
July 25-27 2007, Tubigen, Germany
iii) The 4th International INTUITION Conference
“Virtual Reality and Virtual Environments”
October 4-5 2007, Athens , Greece
Anyone interested to submit a paper to these conferences, the first 2 are already due but the 3rd one is due April 16th.

Right, I have been taking it easy these past 3 days. I have submitted 2 technical papers to 2 different conferences (IEEE and ACM). I pray that they will be accepted. Thank God for the inspiration!! Anyway, I have planned out the next step in my research. April and May will be absolutely jam-packed with activities (hope I’d be physically and emotionally as strong as my spirit!!) Right, my plan:
Complete first part of Topological Modification
Complete second part of Topological Modification
Finalise the framework, PhD Conference, Progress Review
Start on the case study: data collection and simulation planning
Experiment based on real data
Compare with real visual
Prayerfully: The 2 international conferences
Create reference model
Compare with real visual
Compare with research framework
Maybe need another case study?
Start full time writing up…
I commit all this plan to God in Jesus’ name!!! Amen!!!!!!!!!!

Planned out extra experiments yesterday. Carried them out today. Discovered some factors that influence my 2 methods. Wrote about them in my report. All glory to God to enable me to produce results in my experiments and discussions on them.
I have basically completed the experiments I planned to carry out before I go away on a long birthday weekend break on Thursday. Some improvements didn’t work but most produced believable findings. The framework that comes out of these experiments will be further improved in the next stage. I have other factors to explore as well as the third and final stage of the optimisation. Brilliant! More work to do!!!! :( Ill keep my chin up and let God continue to guide me!! I would not have been able to reach this stage if I haven’t got God to depend on!!!! Praise Jesus!!!!!!!
Anyway, in the next 2 days i d need to attend to the following:
i) Edit and complete the next draft of my report ( chapter 1-5)
ii) Revise the CPRO tutorial materials for the week after. I ‘d have to tutor the course.
So, I’d need to complete my report up to chapter 5 by end of tomorrow so I can email it to my supervisor. I have decided to do chapter 6: Further works near the submission date. I’m sure I would have done some more experiments by then. God willing!!!
So tonight, I’m going to rest and indulge in Fame Academy and soapssssss.
Daily Manna from the ‘Net – Monday, March 12, 2007
O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Psalm 139:1-8 NIV

Praise God I managed to add to my progress report today… oops yesterday (its 1230am now) And Ive completed a 2-2-column-page worth of an extended abstract for the Intuition conference. Will email my supervisor this morning and see if we can submit it asap. Well the due date is in April. Once accepted I can work on the full paper. I commit everything in God’s hands!!
Oh the poster competition is coming soon as well. I think I would like to join this year and display my research findings. Will ask for my cousin’s help as she won the high commendation prize last year at Imperial College. I’ve got my findings, etc but need to learn how to document them on a poster. have never done any before. Anyway, shall see. God willing!!
Ok I need sleep now… this morning I will need to collect more data on the new modified methods as well as replications from new surface models.
In Jesus’ name, I pray for wisdom, strength, peace and joy. Amen!!!

Believe it or not, God is interested in the littlest thing in your life!!! It’s great to know that you’re got a friend at the end of the day. People can let you down but He’s forever faithful.
Praise God for today. My experiment went very well. Managed to extract statistical data that support the efficiency of my methods. I will extract more data tomorrow and I can’t wait to write about them in my progress report. God has brought me this far and am sure He will carry me through the rest of the journey.
I did 2 sets of experiments today. And the results show that the factors such as force play an important role in the statistical patterns. And I discovered 2 more entities in my program that can be optimised. Now the method has been improved and it is supported by the experiment results. It is soooo exciting at the moment. I can’t believe that I am now getting results from my research. I’m sure God will help to make them more significant. I’m sure that major knowledge contributions will come out of my research. In Jesus’ name, I believe!!!

Monday was such a trying day. Well not really… I was just trying too hard rather than being rational about my research. My trust was actually a bit swayed towards my so called breakthrough in my method… all the fancy equations that made my research approach somewhat more believable. Been there before… i finally burnt myself out at the end of the day. I was still at peace.. thank God but it was another wake up call from God ” leave your burden to me and I give you rest…” I was too caught up in my work that I neglected my other physical and spiritual needs. Yes, I prayed for wisdom, peace and joy but instead of letting the driver take full control of the navigation, I kept on interfering. I should have just enjoyed the ride and learnt along the way. At the end of the day, I crashed and burnt!!! But thank God, He’s still faithful no matter what. And thou Monday was such a disaster, I still praise Him. And I slept well last night!!!
Morning came, I woke up with the word “force” .. I actually spoke it out and stunned myself. I was like..hey is that you God? I felt inspired. So I went back to the university. Did my experiment. Was so at peace.. did the gazillionth experiment. Didn’t really work according to my hypothesis. Then in the afternoon, I noticed a silly logic mistake I did in my program. I misplaced the very function that implements my new method!!!! I placed it at the right line and hurrah… my method produces a much better result than the classical method. The variation of the error depends on the amount of force. I can conclude that my method supports not only small deformation but also large ones as well! The classical method is better when the deformation is small. The deviation between the 2 methods is only about 0.05 – 0.5. Well, a small improvement IS an improvement. And I praise God for being faithful!! He has never failed!! If I am to build monuments of the blessings He has bestowed upon me, they would fill the whole earth :)
I still have some analysis and improvement to be done on my method. But at least I have jumped over one hurdle! God is seeing me through and He’s the pilot!!! He shall fly me through and over the storms!!!

Planned to work from home today. Well i was at home the whole morning. Modified my report. God sort of inspired me to add a new section on material properties and ideas just kept on flowing. In the midst of all the ideas, it suddenly became clear to me that I was on the right track. I just need to add a new set of experiments to support my methods. I had one issue about my previous method and it was such a miracle that the solution just came up in the midst of my messing about with formulas and concepts. It’s not a foolproof method. I still get some anomalies but at least it improves the whole statistical patterns of my data and I would be able to justify the first parameter of my research with more confidence. 2 optimisations under one parameter is better than none! Praise God!!!
Went to the university late afternoon. Did some experiments but didn’t manage to do all the testings I wanted as it was close to 10 pm. Have to get out unless I wanted to be locked in. WMG is such a strange building!!! I can’t do my experiments during the weekend. Ah well, I do need a rest.
Analysed my formula and the validity of it when I got back. I have now extended the formula to consider the half a portion of the triangular prism volume. I’m not sure how it would improve the whole system. The previous formula created quite a stiff model which will of course fair better under the influence of gravity. So maybe it’s not as effective as it first seemed. However, the material properties are preserved… nearly but better than the previous results. I pray that God guides me and show me what to do.
In Jesus’ name, Amen!!!
Have a great weekend everyone!! God bless!!

I did more experiments today. To conclude, I have implemented 1 existing method, 2 methods based on concepts employed in other areas, 2 methods derived from the the correlation of methods. 2 methods have shown error variation of less than 0.2% which is much better than other existing methods. However, these methods are not efficient enough when they are under the influence of gravity. Most simulation doesn’t impose gravity influence, therefore the current 2 methods can be improved further. I can say that 80% of parameter 2 has been achieved. Parameter 1 has succeeded to prove the first hypothesis. But I still need to improve the method and do more experiments to evaluate my model behaviour.
Ok its time to put the experiments aside. I managed to complete the first draft of chapter 1 of my progress report today. I will start on chapter 2 after this. Gosh, its a bit overwhelming but God is on my side. I pray for wisdom, strength, peace and joy!!!! In Jesus’ name , Amen!!!!!!
*PS* : Read the poem, it’s very inspiring…
