Is this for real a scam? I ordered $650 wirth of journals for family and the damn plaque that was their supposedly award. Is there a class action that could be servered on them? What has everyone else done to recover their loses?

i also recieved the email. i sent a photo of my son in and was so happy when i thought that i was in the final because i thought that i would have a perfect photo of my son in a published piece of work. before i commited myself to buying the book i checked in google and found this site i am so gald that i checked first. thank you so much for creating this forum you have just saved me so much money. its a shame that there are people like this who get peoples hopes up and then shatter them completely. sorry guys im just like you

I actually paid for my journals using Pay Pal and have since file a claim with them and have recieved a complete refund on all money that was given for the purchase of the journals. I did not at any stage recieve their journal. If you have parted with money via paypal simple lodge your complaint & seek an immediate refund.

Ditto to all the above, however, I did not check and got bitten. I paid for the book (yet to arrive.. if ever) and the plaque (which did arrive amazingly). The plaque is signed as well. Calvin Broadus, Director & Christopher Wallace, Coordinator. When I first submitted the photograph it was to something called Photo Laureates (http://www.photolaureates.org) which is still up and running. I do not know how to go about getting the scam closed but hope this helps.

I got my plaque in the mail two weeks ago. It did feel a little off when they asked for money. I’m advising my husband not to send any more checks.

Hope this helps and that something can be done. Can anyone recommend “real” photo competitions online? I’m sure you’re all talented photographers, and we deserve encouragement, especially if we’re just starting out :(

my niece just told me about photo laurettes, saying that she submitted a photo last week at the deadline for the book submissions (or something) and that she found out today that she is having two different photos publishes in two different books. i’m so concerned, even though i just found out like an hour ago, i asked her if this was genuine and she said “of course!” but i’m really concerned now. i hope she doesnt do anything stupid!!!

i’m also worried about photo laurettes having her home address. could something bad happen because of this???

    28 May 2007, 05:43

  20. I don’t know much about it but most forums say that it is an “established” scam :)

I just received a book “Photography vibes” with no letter or note.
I have had various email-discussions with photolaureates who would not refund my money
WHO is suing them? I would like to join you!
I WANT TO TAKE BACK WHAT IS MINE!!
MY PHOTOGRAPHY IS PRECIOUS TO ME AND I PUT A LOT OF EFFORT IN IT
they are so disrespectful to real artists

please email me and we can join together to get back to them!

    Astrid
    PS
My photo is NOT even IN the book

Good thing I came here. I just had the same e-mail today stating that I am a finalist for $6500 prize. And boy, was I excited? I am thankful that I did not pay anything for this scam. What a shame. That website should be closed!

Well at least I wasnt stupid enough to give them any money. They sent me an email with a way to pay them by paypal for the journal but there were so many tell tale signs it was a scam. I’m glad I didnt fall for it.

I was excited when picture.com told me I was going to be published. I was dumb enough to get the book and saw my picture. But I agree with other posters and sites, if someone thinks your photo is great, THEY PAY YOU! I am going to National Geographic for their photo contest. Glad I ran into these threads.

I actually paid money to Photolaureates. This is definitely a scam. For the information of other scamees this is what I did about it. After several attempts to contact them and receiving automated replies, I threatened to report them to the Fair Trading Authority in my country (Australia) and guess what….........the money was credited to my bank account within days. I may just have been lucky but it pays to try.

I know if you take pictures in state parks in the USA then they all have a photo contest of their own.
