I just have to say a massive thank you to everyone in the Communications Office for a really valuable month's experience!

It's been great getting to know everyone and I've learnt a lot from your professionalism and friendliness. I'm sorry that it's been shorter than expected – but I will let you know how I'm getting on in Nigeria!

If you want to see where I'll be this time next week check out the Expedia map on the link – I'm working in Ibadan.

Enjoy the summer everyone,

O daaro (see you later!)

Ruth

Writing about web page http://www.kwenu.com/publications/ohaeto/political_godfather.htm

I was volunteering in Nigeria, working in community development, when this open letter was published. It reminds me of the daily unfairnesses faced by people at the hands of their ruling elite, and the courage it takes to mock the system as cleverly as this.

Warwick is a world away from the university I spent part of my time working at – while I was there, a massive student riot took place over issues of religion, trust, and misuse of resources. The Dean of Student's house got smashed up in the middle of the night, and the university was closed down for a month right in the middle of exams.

No matter how much finals suck, not being able to take them at all is far worse.

Helen

You, fragment bloom,
the fullest sideshoot
and best blossom of my life,

one without whom
existence brinks unthinkable,
to you i will always speak

silently with every breath,
the twisted rope of being
that has us kinmirrored

the brighter face of the other;
neverclosing, my sleepfilled lids
won't meet to shut you out

my fierce tomorrow
my better bud
my proudest gift
