AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released:

  • The peach–potato aphid was captured at 5 suction trap sites, with only Preston catching more than one individual.
  • No potato aphids were captured.
  • Single mealy cabbage aphids were captured at Gogarbank and Kirton.
  • No currant-lettuce aphids were captured.
  • Willow ̶ carrot aphids were only found in the suction traps at Dundee (4) and Kirton (1).
  • Pea aphids were captured at Wellesbourne (2) and Writtle (1).
  • The black bean aphid was captured at Gogarbank (2), Kirton (1) and Writtle (1).

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 11th and 14th September our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 88 male and 40 female
  • Bean seed flies - 35
  • Pollen beetles - 9
  • Flea beetles - 38
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 4

We caught no carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, 1 silver Y moth, no cabbage moths and 5 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 13 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 7th and 11th September our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies -113 male and 34 female
  • Bean seed flies - 59
  • Pollen beetles - 10
  • Flea beetles - 73
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 1

We caught 3 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, 4 silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 3 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 68 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released:

  • The peach–potato aphid was captured in suction traps at five sites, with numbers increasing at three towards the north of Britain.
  • No potato aphids were captured.
  • The mealy cabbage aphid was captured at five sites, increasing at three.
  • No currant-lettuce aphids were captured.
  • Only 9 willow ̶carrot aphids were captured – 8 at Dundee and 1 at Rothamsted.
  • Pea aphids were captured at Preston (3), Wellesbourne (1) and Hereford (2)
  • The black bean aphid was caught at four sites with single aphids found at all but Dundee (8).

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 4th and 7th September our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 45 male and 52 female
  • Bean seed flies - 30
  • Pollen beetles - 6
  • Flea beetles - 53
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 0

We caught 8 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 3 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 7 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 31st August and 4th September our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 98 male and 58 female
  • Bean seed flies - 31
  • Pollen beetles - 10
  • Flea beetles - 102
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 11

We caught 7 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, 2 silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 8 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 8 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released:

  • The peach–potato aphid was captured at Kirton (19) and Hereford (1).
  • Only a single potato aphid was captured - at Dundee.
  • The mealy cabbage aphid was captured at four sites, but increasing at only Preston (8) and Kirton (26).
  • A single currant-lettuce aphid was captured in the Hereford suction trap.
  • Only four willow ̶ carrot aphids were captured - at Dundee.
  • Single pea aphids were captured at Dundee, York and Wye.
  • The black bean aphid was only caught at Dundee (9), Gogarbank (3) and Hereford (1).

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 28th and 31st August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 113 male and 103 female
  • Bean seed flies - 54
  • Pollen beetles - 8
  • Flea beetles - 109
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2
  • Small white butterfly - 1

We caught 16 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 2 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There was 1 cabbage root fly egg around our 15 brassica plants.

Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 24th and 28th August our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 134 male and 31 female
  • Bean seed flies - 70
  • Pollen beetles - 0
  • Flea beetles - 87
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2
  • Small white butterfly - 1

We caught 15 carrot flies on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were 0 diamond-back moths, 1 silver Y moth, no cabbage moths and 19 turnip moths in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 0 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.

AHDB Pest Bulletin

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released.

  • The peach–potato aphid was only recorded from Dundee (3), Gogarbank (2) and Kirton (20).
  • Only a single potato aphid was recorded from Dundee (1).
  • The mealy cabbage aphid was recorded from six sites but increasing at only four, mainly in northern Britain.
  • No currant-lettuce aphids were trapped.
  • Only a single willow ̶ carrot aphid was recorded this week from the suction trapat Dundee.
  • The pea aphid was recorded in single figures from seven sites, but increasing at only four.
  • The black bean aphid was only caught at Dundee (4), Gogarbank (1) and Preston (1).
