Pest update from Wellesbourne
When the water traps in the swede plot were checked today there were:
- 4 male and 3 female cabbage root flies
- 25 bean seed flies
- 0 flea beetles
- 3650 pollen beetles
- 25 cabbage stem weevils
- 0 cabbage stem flea beetles
- 0 cabbage seed weevils
There were 15 carrot flies on the 3 sticky traps in the new plot for 2019.
59 cabbage root fly eggs were laid between 18 and 21 June (around 15 plants).
6 diamond-back moths and 1 turnip moth were captured. No moths were captured in our other pheromone traps (silver Y moth, cabbage moth, diamond-back moth). There are 2 traps for each species.
We also caught 12 diamond-back moths on 6 carrot fly traps, 3 of which are in our carrots (above) and 3 are in the swede plot and are baited with a pheromone lure (experimental).
